Underwear Guy Reviews: Overview



As promised I have started posting underwear reviews on this blog and I figure it would be helpful to understand my thinking behind the scores. To keep each underwear review consistent and easy to compare against each other I have created a grading scale based on 4 major categories:

Fit: Do they feel comfortable? Any weird sags or binding seams or funny gaps? Do they provide the right amount of support? Are they true to size?
Design: Is there anything unique to the colors, the fabrics the cut? Do they work as an undergarment?
Material: Is it too thin or too thick? Is the cotton-lycra or synthetic blend correct? Does the material have consistent color throughout?
Construction: Are there any bad seams, loose threads, or unfinished edges?

I’ll roll those individual category grades into a single overall grade at the end. The way that works is that occasionally a pair of underwear might not have the best design but maybe the construction and materials are so good that I’ll weigh the overall grade higher. Think of the overall grade as the more personal and subjective score. The final verdict is whether or not I would buy another pair which is a yes or no answer.

Just like in school F is bad and A is good. Only in special instances will I give out an A+ which you know means I really like the underwear. Since we all have grade inflation and I have a hard time giving out Ds and Fs, you'll probably mostly see C grades on the low end which you can pretty much assume means I'm not happy with something and you wouldn't like the underwear that much either depending on personal preference.

At the beginning of each review I’ll include a paragraph that might include a summary of my impressions, maybe some background information on the manufacturer or designer and on occasion, when/where I bought the gear.

Lastly, but not least, I’m going out on a limb for your benefit by including photos of myself actually wearing the gear. Do I think I’m a model? No, I know I’m just your average guy and there are more buff and sexier guys out there but I think it helps to see what the underwear looks like on a regular guy and how the gear really fits outside of a professional studio without tricks for the benefit of product photography. The point of these reviews is to provide you with information for purchasing the best pair of underwear for you so you don’t waste your money and your time like I’m more than willing to do for the sake of improving the world of underwear.
