BodyAware Metallic Zip Short Review

Underwear Guy Review: BodyAware Metallic Zip Short
Designer/Manufacturer: BodyAware

Another BodyAware product review to round out this morning’s update: the Metallic Zip short. Not really a “short” but actually a brief this is an example of BodyAware unique design and material selection. The material is a stretch pleather available in metallic blue, red, pink, and silver (steel). I haven’t really worn these briefs for more than a few minutes-just for the photos-but my feeling is that this material will lose its shape over time. Since it’s like a plastic coated spandex you won’t necessarily get the fabric to shrink or reshape to its original fit with a simple wash/dry cycle. The sides of the brief are detailed with functional zippers that can be unzipped up to the waist although you cannot completely detach the front and halves. I would have preferred a little extra guard material on the inside of the zippers since you could painfully “catch” yourself with these zippers if you aren’t careful. There isn’t really a waistband, just thin elastic sewn into all the edges with a mostly true-to-size fit although a bit on the tight side. As with many of BodyAware’s designs the fit in the front could be better with a completely flat design which doesn’t shape well and feels too tight. Although these are easily not considered an every-day undergear wearing choice, the lack of a pouch up front tends to make them less likely to be worn even for short periods of time.

The Grades:

Fit: B- These aren’t meant to be worn like regular underwear so I’m a little more forgiving of the awkward fit but I still wouldn’t recommend these as comfortable undergear.
Design: A The colors and material are definitely a high point here with some fun elements that are very different from what you’d find in mainstream stores and underwear labels.
Material: A-

The pleather material is a fun novelty with colors that are indeed very metallic looking as the product name implies. As mentioned in the review I’m not sure how well it would hold up to repeated wearing but overall I give it high marks for the uniqueness factor.

Construction: A

Very even stitching and clean cuts as usual, BodyAware maintains high grades for quality.

Overall Grade: B-

This is an example where the individual parts rate much higher than the overall. I think the problems I had with the fit start to overwhelm the rest of the high points so I’m not awarding a particularly good overall score here.

Would I buy another pair? Probably not. Until they add a front pouch or change the cut to some degree I can’t come up with a good reason whey I’d want to wear these long enough to require a second pair.
