Joe Boxer String Bikini Review

Underwear Guy Review: Joe Boxer String Bikini
Designer/Manufacturer: Joe Boxer
Website: www.joeboxer.com
Price: $9.99 4-pack

Joe Boxer is an iconic underwear brand that has been around since 1985 selling boxers (of course) as well as a range of other styles including briefs, trunks and bikinis. The TV commercials advertising Joe Boxer’s availability at Kmart stores featured actor/model Vaughn Lowery as the “dancing boxers guy” and were highly successful. Those advertisements took on a life of their own for the quirky style and humor and pre-dated a lot of the “viral video” underwear ads being deployed by manufacturers/designers today. Joe Boxer underwear is primarily sold at Kmart stores although I have seen and purchased their underwear from other retail locations as well which makes me think Kmart’s exclusivity isn’t absolute. Nevertheless, Kmart is where you’ll find the vast majority of Joe Boxer underwear and I ordered these String Bikinis from www.kmart.com. As a side note, be warned that for some reason Kmart insists you sign for the package upon delivery via UPS so make sure that isn’t going to be a problem for you. These are 100% cotton string bikinis available in a variety of colors and patterns. The colors are de-saturated to a level that doesn’t necessarily catch the eye very well but provides some basic design elements. The fabric is a functional if not particularly soft blend and it tends to be fairly thin which makes the underwear feel a little cheap. The fit on the waistband is true to size with some nicely emboss-stitched Joe Boxer logo text repeated on the exterior. Very similar to the Merona and Fruit Of The Loom string bikinis, these Joe Boxers have more material cut in the pattern for the front and back than typical string bikinis making for a rise that is a little too high and creating some looseness in the back that can cause the dreaded “wedgie” effect. There isn’t a pouch included in the single-layer design but that isn’t unusual for a string bikini style.

The Grades:
Fit: B Not the best fit for a string bikini but the cut is better than the Fruit Of The Loom and Merona styles which are in a similar price-point category.
Design: B- There isn’t much here to write home about, the patterns and colors are just OK but nothing innovative or particularly interesting to them.
Material: A-

The 100% cotton is comfortable if not particularly soft and makes wearing these bikinis for all-day activities reasonable.

Construction: A

For the price I’d say the construction quality was very good with clean seams and symmetrical pattern cuts on all 4 bikinis.

Overall Grade: B

For a bargain-basement brief I didn’t necessarily expect too much and I found these string bikinis to be a decent underwear choice if not terribly exciting. I’m a little torn on these bikinis because I think the price is incredible so you could bump the overall score to a B+/A- if you were more concerned about saving money than having a unique pair of underwear to wear.

Would I buy another pair? Not really, considering there’s 4 in a package and I’d like to save space for underwear that has more design to it.

i tried the jockey Elance String Bikini years ago and it was a terrible experience. i was pulling the rear edge bikini portion out of my ass crack constantly. then jockey came out with Jockey no-fly Pouch Boxer Brief. i bought one medium size at macy's and it fit great. that bikini crap was trashed as soon as i could purchase enough of the no-fly Pouch Boxer Briefs. i would never even consider anything but boxer briefs for everyday wear.
if i want underwear constantly sliding up my ass ill just wear a thong.

i have to say these are the best pair of underwear that I have worn since i started to buy my own. i have worn a lot of other underwear from others and hanes comes in a real close second compared to these. joe boxer holds its shape and supports everything really good for me. i am a slim guy who wants to be comfertable in my underwear and this is the one i like a lot. there is one thing why is all of the stores getting rid of string and regular bikinis. that is all i wear. no tighty whites or that style on me.
