Affordable Men's Underwear Recap: Winners and Losers

Affordable Men's Underwear Recap: Winners and Losers
Ranking 8 Department Store Underwear Brands

Now that I have nearly exhausted the range of affordable underwear to review I thought it would be appropriate to re-visit the underwear lineup and provide some overall rankings for the 8 different brands I’ve tried out. Naturally it’s tough to put each style/brand in a specific order particularly if the styles being compared are different but I tried to use my best judgment based on the overall scores. In some cases these rankings might seem to contradict some of the grades from the individual reviews but each review is written mostly in a self-contained manner and this is taking an all-up approach. An example of this review-mirror perspective is the ranking of the Stafford bikinis down near the bottom, which in the earlier individual review scored relatively high. I still stand by my review but in a cross-brand competition Hanes and Life underwear beat Stafford. My previous report on affordable underwear is worth reading if you want some additional commentary on the subject. A new feature starting with this article is a content poll where you can add your opinion with votes on specific questions relevant to the article. So for this entry why don’t you vote for your personal favorite affordable underwear brand:

I'm a fan of Life underwear, these sculptured pouch trunks were comfortable, fashionable and affordable. I also liked the Euro Trunks as well so that speaks to Life Underwear's consistency across styles.

The Hanes fashion underwear I've reviewed to date was uniquely fashionable, brought something new to the table with the special mesh fabric and had some very nice color/pattern choices that stood out from the pack.

It was a tough call for 3rd place between the Covington Ribbed Bikinis and the Jockey Sport Low-Rise Briefs but I decided to go with the Covington underwear for 3rd due to the more interesting range of color choices and the rock-bottom price of just $4.00 per pair.

Given the inconsistency of fit and design with Jocky underwear I was pleasantly surprised to find these low-rise sport briefs were comfortable, well-designed and affordable. Although some extra color choices would have been nice, the final product is still very good.

At 5th place Joe Boxer isn't getting great accolades for their work but they still offer very reasonable package of underwear in these String Bikinis from Kmart. The colors were kind of drab and the fit wasn't the best but you'll have 4 pairs of underwear for just $2.50/pair-an unbeatable price.

This was another close call and you might find it unusual that given a generally positive review and a B+ for an overall grade that the Stafford Bikinis would rank higher but I think given the overall picture now that several more reviews have been completed, I would put them at 6th place.

Nearing the bottom of the pack are these Fruit of the Loom String Bikinis. These just didn't work out well in my opinion with a really bad pattern cut that left way too much material in the final product design. Poor fit and not so great construction left me feeling more than a little disappointed.

Definitelythe least flattering of the 8 featured styles/brands, although these Merona String Bikinis are nearly the cheapest underwear to be found it just isn't worth the cost savings to have 5 pairs of mostly unwearable underwear when there are other superior choices to be found.
