AussieBum Animal Hipster Review

Underwear Guy Review: AussieBum Animal Hipster
Designer/Manufacturer: AussieBum
Website: www.aussiebum.com
Price: $34.00

After having spent a large percentage of the past reviews on department store brands that run at less than $5.00 a pair I thought I’d switch it up and swing “wildly” in the other direction with these AussieBum Animal Print Hipsters (squarecuts). It’s surprising that I haven’t reviewed more AussieBum underwear to date considering how much of player they are in the current Premium Designer Men’s Underwear market. I think part of that is the often higher cost of their lines which prohibits lots of multiple purchases. I picked up these squarecuts at a local underwear shop for the price of $34 which at least meant there wasn’t a shipping fee. The animal prints are offered in a very fun selection of Tiger, Giraffe and what’s covered in this review: Snakeskin. The material is a very smooth and comfortable synthetic blend (72% Polyamide, 28% Elastine) which allows for very sharp detail on the prints. The fit is true-to-size with the mediums fitting just right for myself thanks to the stretch of the material. The overall cut is excellent with a low-rise that is finished with a woven-logo AussieBum waistband that is very comfortable with a microfiber brushed interior face. There is a large tag sewn on the waistband interior on the back but it lays flat enough to not be a scratching problem. The inseam for the legs of the squarecut is very short at about 1”. The pouch is single-layered but the material is thick enough that you won’t be revealing too much information. The shape of the pouch is nicely designed with a good balance between support and up-front room.

The Grades:
Fit: A I definitely liked the fit, squarecuts are one of my favorite styles and these hit the mark very well with good room in the front and nothing binding or feeling too tight on the legs or the waist. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: A The big selling point for this underwear line is the wild animal prints which are executed very nicely with impressively sharp graphics and bright colors.
Material: A

The synthetic blend material is very smooth to the touch and has a nice amount of stretch to keep things comfortable for all-day wear.

Construction: A

The construction quality is excellent with very clean seams and solid stitching all around.

Overall Grade: A-

I realize it might be a bit confusing to rate every category highly and then take a knock on the overall grade but it was the only place I felt it fair to acknowledge the price point. This is of course personal opinion but I do not feel that paying $34 for a special print is necessarily justified. I have no problem spending money for underwear and have spent more than $45 for really specialty designed briefs but I can’t say that these squarecuts are worth that much money. I’d say around $25-$28 would be a better price-point so if you can get them on any sort of sale then go for it.

Would I buy another pair? Not at that price, but on sale yes, I would try out another pair in a different print.
