It’s not too much of a stretch to say that California Muscle (CM) was a pioneer in Men’s Underwear. Long before Cin2 introduced the “sling” or Andrew Christian had their “show-it” strap, CM had already been selling c-ring underwear in a variety of materials, finishes, designs, colors and prints for years. Usually known for their daring range of sheer and extreme underwear, CM has also been producing more standard cut underwear including this Komodo “Brief”. Although it’s referred to as a brief by the manufacturer and many retailers, this is definitely a bikini cut and I will refer to it as such for the rest of the review. The Komodo line is available in three cuts including a squarecut, bikini, thong and jock as well as a shirt. The colors available are in two shades of blue: gray-blue and a deeply saturated primary blue, red and olive (this review). The material on the Komodo line is a very thin 90% Nylon 10% Lycra which is comfortable and has a lot of stretch to it. Contrasting piping along the sides of the front pouch provide some nice styling on an otherwise simple design. There isn’t really a waistband with just thin fabric-covered elastic that is the same weight as the legs which is why I refer to this as a bikini cut not a brief. All underwear in the Komodo line (and most of CM’s other gear) includes an inner elastic c-ring. This c-ring is definitely a bit tricky to “get into” but once you’re there it’s very comfortable and works well. I’d say the results are as good as the Cin-2 sling while feeling more wearable for all-day. You do not have to use the c-ring of course but if you do be aware the front pouch is only single-layer otherwise so you’ll find the outlines fairly noticeable. The back of the bikini is a full-cut and overall the sizing is accurate with mediums working well for a 32”-34” waist.

The Grades:
Fit: A Overall a good fit, the stretchiness of the Nylon blend helps to work for a broad range of body types as it conforms to your shapes.
Design: A I like the more understated design of this bikini (compared to some of the other CM lines) with some nice color options and the inner c-ring which is well constructed and works as advertised.
Material: A

As mentioned earlier I liked the Nylon blend for a change from the typical cotton or polyester materials, it’s silky smooth and comfortable to wear.

Construction: A

California Muscle usually does a good job on construction and I found these bikinis to have excellent seams, stitches and pattern cuts.

Overall Grade: A

These bikinis earned solid marks across the board as everything works on all fronts.

Would I buy another pair? Yes, I would buy another pair although I’d like to also try out the different cuts considering squarecuts are my favorite style and the color options would provide some variety.

Based on the picture, this brief shows off you, and your tools well! Nice body and nice, comfortable-looking bikini brief. I believe another, brighter color would be even better on you.
