Target C9 Champion Core Performance Brief

Underwear Guy Review: Target C9 Champion Core Performance Brief
Designer/Manufacturer: C9 by Champion

Price: $9.99 2-Pack

Another Target exclusive brand, the C9 by Champion clothing line covers a broad variety of athletic workout gear including shorts, shirts, pants, swimwear and underwear all at bargain prices thanks to Target’s big-box volume and distribution capabilities. These briefs are sold as a 2-pack in a plastic Ziploc-style metallic bag. Unfortunately I’ve already forgotten the pricing on these but I believe they are around the sub $10 range. -Update, I went back to Target to check the pricing and I was right, $9.99 for the 2-pack. The line includes this brief cut as well as boxer-briefs and shirts in white cotton. The core performance line is made from a 95% cotton 5% spandex blend that has plenty of stretch to it thanks to the thinness of the material. As for the style, I think I’ve become too used to low-rise underwear because these briefs felt incredibly high-rise on the hips, they are definitely an old-school style brief from that perspective. I tend to feel that for athletic underwear a little lower rise on the waist and a higher cut on the legs would allow for better movement and more flexibility so I’m not a big fan of this cut. The double-layer front doesn’t really have a pouch so there isn’t much shaping or pronounced lift provided in these briefs. The fabric-covered waistband is about ¾” and fits true-to-size with the mediums accurately fitting a 32-34” waist. The only major design feature on these briefs is a small C9 logo on the left leg, otherwise these are relatively plain.

The Grades:
Fit: B- The fit is just OK here because the high-rise bothers me to some degree and I do not believe it’s just a personal style preference, these really do feel incorrectly cut on the rise.
Design: C+ Just because these are athletic briefs doesn’t mean they have to skip on the design aspects. The pouch design is really lackluster and the overall styling is so plain it makes these briefs feel particularly cheap.
Material: B+

Nothing particularly special about the cotton blend but it works fine and is wearable for all-day activities.

Construction: A

I give Champion high marks for quality construction including good stitching and clean lines without any loose threads.

Overall Grade: C

I think my standards regarding affordable department store brands have been raised and these just don’t work out well enough to warrant a positive grade.

Would I buy another pair? No, I disliked these overall briefs to the degree that I will not be wearing them again. Despite the low pricing I do not think consumers should expect such boring styling and poor design work in their underwear.

Where To Buy:
C9 clothing is only available at Target stores.

Good idea! For your sake and your partner's, please don't wear these briefs again as they distract from your body's appearance. You look much better and much sexier in a low rise brief/bikini so don't be afraid to flaunt it!
