AussieBum Wonderjock Hipster Review

Underwear Guy Review: AussieBum Wonderjock Hipster

Price: $21.53 (plus import and currency exchange fees)

Aussiebum was a fairly quiet underwear operator for many years. Mostly known for their nylon swimwear and basic brief it wasn’t until 2006 that Aussiebum started making more noticeable world-wide waves with it’s Wonderjock. Embracing more non-traditional advertising media like blogs and online video, Aussiebum touted the first “enhancing” underwear for men that lifted and profiled. Of course the novelty and somewhat “taboo” nature of discussing men’s assets in such a way hit the “giggle” factor for local news outlets across the globe and only helped Aussiebum market it’s underwear even further. Today’s review is the Aussiebum Wonderjock in the Red Japan Hipster style. The other country/color options are varied with white, black, red and blue for the primary color and red, white, green, black and blue for the contrast piping and waistbands. There are two different styles for the Wonderjocks including a low-rise hipster/squarecut and a low-rise brief. All Wonderjocks are made from a 100% ribbed cotton that is not as soft as I’d like but manages to be flexible and stretchable for all-day wear. The waistband on the Wonderjocks is about an inch tall and is nicely styled with stitched text to correspond to the nation of choice. The interior of the waistband has a microfiber brushed “fleecing” texture which makes for a very comfortable fit that is true-to-size. The contrast white piping is a nice design element giving a very classic masculine look to these squarecuts. The leg bands, also in a contrasting color are thicker than what you typically find in most underwear design at about ¾”. I felt like the legs were a bit tight on these so be aware of that if you have above average upper leg definition, you may want to try the brief design which doesn’t have the same issue.

Of course to many all those other specifications aren’t nearly as interesting as the Wonderjock pouch design. The front pouch is double-layer material ringed by the contrasting piping which by itself does a certain amount to life and package things together. On the inside of the pouch is a “cup” design made out of the same material as the rest of the underwear. This cup is what pulls your package out from your body and keeps things more tightly packaged which results in a more prominent bulge. The combination of material and design are what contribute to the overall enhancement so many will find they get better shaping results from the Aussiebum Wonderjock than the equivalent results from a standard c-ring. The advantage of the Wonderjock design is that the cup isn’t nearly as restricting or complicated to get into as a regular c-ring like the Andrew Christian and Cin2 versions, or o-ring panels from California Muscle. The end result is enhancing underwear that you can feel very comfortable wearing all day. At most you might feel a slight tugging feeling but other than that you won’t feel anything different in these hipsters than most regular underwear. You will find that your package will stay in place all day through pretty much all activities so no worries about sliding around or “falling out” so to speak. Also advantageous is the fact that you can also choose to not place yourself into the cup and wear them as regular non-enhancing underwear.

The Grades:
Fit: A Good overall fit here, the leg bands might be an issue for some but generally speaking I was pleased in this category.
Design: A+ The variety of color combinations makes for some fun choices but the real reason for the + is the innovative pouch design that is now copied by many other labels because of its success.
Material: A

The classic ribbed cotton is comfortable and holds up well over time.

Construction: A

As with all AussieBum underwear I’ve tried to date the construction quality is top notch with all three of my Wonderjocks exhibiting quality stitching, and clean fabric/pattern cuts.

Overall Grade: A+ I think the design of the Wonderjock is innovative enough to warrant a very high score. It helps that all the other scoring categories are executed with high marks as well and the pricing is very reasonable.

Would I buy another pair? Yes, and I already have bought more Wonderjocks including the brief style in white and blue.

Wear Recommendations:
All-day Wear Loungewear Athletic Sleepwear Office Wear Special Occasion Bedroom Wear

Where To Buy:
AussieBum keeps the Wonderjocks under fairly tight distribution so you will typically only find them in specialty underwear stores in the US like UnderU4men (currently accepting phone orders only) . Otherwise you will need to order direct from the Aussiebum website: Product Page.

I have the Wonderjock in both the brief and the hipster styles and have to say that it is a great design. Both create a nice bulge under jeans but the hipster seems to emphasize that even more for some reason. I tend to favor briefs over hipsters, as the legs on hipsters inevitably ride up and make for a sloppy look and feel. The Wonderjock hipster has very short legs which makes for a more comfortable and nicer look in my opinion.

I am looking to buy Aussiebum, Cin2, Coxsox etc. I am interested in the enhancement lines, eg sling, pouch , o ring etc.

I want advise as to what is best. I was originally interested in the sling, but comfort seemed a factor in the reviews. I liked the reviews for the wonderjock by Aussiebum, and now I read coxsox has a new line.

    What is your advice?
I live in Canada and want the best value fro my money. Topdrawers is located in Canada and carries a lot of suppliers, but no Aussiebum.

      Hello Shaun,

Thanks for reading! CockSox is a fine underwear line but I don’t think it’s as versatile as the AussieBum Wonderjock. The lift from the CockSox line is based only on the pouch shape but beyond that there isn’t any specific technology. In some ways you need to be somewhat above average to make the CockSox underwear really look good which wouldn’t make as much sense if someone is looking for any extra enhancement. My recommendation is to go with the AussieBum Wonderjock, the pocket technology really does work while still being comfortable enough to last through the day.

Chris, I own both the briefs and hipsters. While the briefs do a very good job enhancing the goods, the hipster, by virtue of the cut, do an even better job. I personally prefer the feel of extra security provided by the hipster; the inside cup is a bit wider and deeper than in the brief.

Just bought the hipsters. I tend to be a bit sceptical about claims made in advertising. Pleased to say I was wrong in this case. Really comfortable and hold things in place nicely. The pouch design is quite effective in making an average package look quite impressive.

    Will probably buy more.

Definitely appreciate the review. I bought a few pairs of these and love the look, pouch technology and fit (everywhere but the pouch itself) but I've found that the actual pouch up front is a bit tight. Do you know of a similar style of underwear that have a slightly roomier pouch?

I agree. Overall a great look but the pounch needs to be roomier especially for larger guys. I guess the intent is to provide more of a buldge to the less endowed. I find that I can't wear them all day and prefer at night under a pair of slim fitting pants.

I agree the pouch is just a little tight, but overall I am *REALLY* happy with these. One other comment - although these are comfortable, and they do pull my boys up and out, it tends to make the rest of my package retract. I'm a "grower not a shower" and these seem to make that even more pronounced.

I agree with Mark totally as that's how I feel too since I also fall into the category of "grower not shower".

I agree with David and others - I have both types of Wonderjock and the hipster does a better job of enhancing than the brief. I want to try the Andrew Christian Show It but the price - wow! Maybe someone will have it on sale after it's been out a while longer.

Just bought several of the hipsters.
I have found that the blue material seems not to be as durable as the other colours.

The black and the white trunks are almost embarrassing to wear as they do such a good job. You could say that it isn't my face that people notice first.

Got the hipsters and they look good on me, however the sizing is small i believe. My package does not fit in the cup and gets kinda squished from below (maybe the "tugging" feeling in the review?) while lifting it out so much that the already low rise waistband pulled down to the top of my shaft so that my pubes are showing if i hadn't trimmed. I should have ordered a size up, but these were large and I am a medium to large size.

    Howdy,

Just to a $0.02, I bought some of these recently because I liked the look and colors and just wanted to give them a whirl since they are stylish, fun, and appeared to be well made. I wasn't particularly interested in the "enhancement" aspect of the pouch, and just ignored it for the first few days and wore them like "regular" underwear (I'm not trying to suggest "ooo, I'm so big I don't need the enhancement benefit, aren't I awesome", I just don't really care very much).

They are all of those things. I am impressed with everything about these. My body isn't super-fantastic at the moment and I still have some work to do, but they still look great on me. They're super-cute, high-quality, and DANG they are comfy. I tend to dress "up", so being tucked into the pouch is actually a little distracting and uncomfortable for me, but for the record they still produce a noticeable "enhancement" even if you skip the pouch, just because of how they're cut, whether that's your goal or not. Hey, free bonus! And they just...FEEL good. You can't help but just feel a little sexier with them on. A+

I have the wonder jock brief version and it doesn't work for me at all. My package doesn't fit into the pouch properly and I find that it's more flattening than flattering. Maybe the hipster will work better as seen from earlier reviews. I find that the Andrew Christian Show It range work better for me.
