Life Underwear Modern Stretch String Bikini Review
Underwear Guy Review: Life Underwear Modern Stretch
String BikiniDesigner/Manufacturer: Life Underwear

Price: ?
I recently purchased another style of underwear from Life Underwear by Jockey
to review: the String Bikini in Modern Stretch microfiber (also available as a
100% cotton blend as well). These bikinis are offered in a 3-pack in a plastic
box on a store-display hang-tag setup
with product photos provided via a full-color card insert. There are a mix of
solid colors available in the microfiber version while the cotton versions are
available in stripes and solids. Other than the materials, the microfiber and
cotton versions maintain identical cuts and styles. (Update: Blog Reader Ed has informed me that his version of the cotton string bikini isn't as problematic as this microfiber version. I will be trying out the cotton string bikini to see if the fit fares better, thanks Ed! So for now assume this review is only relevant to the microfiber version.) The microfiber blend is 87% Polyester and 13% Spandex in a very thin weave that is smooth to the touch with a medium amount of stretch. The colors in my 3-pack were light blue, medium blue and-featured in the photos here-a burgundy-red. As for the style, this is probably the most minimal string bikini you will find with a covered waistband that is about ½” wide and a small front panel about 4 ½” across and a full-coverage back. The waist size is true-to-size with the mediums suiting my normal range. At the back of the waist is a small Life Underwear tag that conveys the standard brand and wash/care information. Other than the back tag there is no other brand or design information to be found on the bikini. If I were to stop the review there you might think this was another positive Life Underwear review to match the previous Euro Trunk and Sculptured Pouch trunk entries. Unfortunately, this String Bikini breaks the Life Underwear winning streak with a mostly unwearable front pouch design. The biggest problem here is that there is no pouch included in this bikini whatsoever and there is so little material to cover you in the front that you won’t get a naturally formed pouch either. Instead, you get a mercilessly crushing experience that is quite uncomfortable for virtually any wearing situation. The front panel is also single-layer material so you’ll find these more revealing than traditional underwear.
The Grades:
| Fit: | D | Wow, these were uncomfortable beyond belief. I wish I could say something nicer here but these couldn’t have been a more package-flattening experience to wear. |
| Design: | B- | The minimalist string bikini style is interesting since there aren’t too many styles out there like this and the solid colors are vibrant but otherwise not a lot to mention in the design category. |
| Material: | B+ | Nothing spectacular here on the fabric with a microfiber blend that could have been a little more flexible and/or stretchable but a decent grade overall for the material. |
| Construction: | A | Still high marks for Life Underwear
on the construction with excellent seams and stitching all around.
|
| Overall Grade: | C | Although these string bikinis can be purchased at bargain-prices the poorly designed front doesn’t make it worthwhile even with the low cost. |
| Would I buy another pair? No, these were not reasonably comfortable to justify spending more money on another pack of 3. | ||
Where To Buy:
As with all Life Underwear you’ll have to march yourself down to your nearest Wal-Mart to find these string bikinis.
Wear Recommendations:
| All-day Wear | Loungewear | Athletic | Sleepwear | Office Wear | Special Occasion | Bedroom Wear |

I have had the cotton version of these for about a year, and they weren't so bad. While not an amazing fit or design, there was more front room. It really can't be called a pouch, but it worked for my slightly larger than average package. Also, they came only in a five pack of cotton. This might all be due to a change by the brand since then, or perhaps not. The hit and miss nature of Jockey has been mentioned here, and Walmart brands aren't consistent from my experience either. This doesn't give any conclusion, but I felt the need to tell everyone that mine were decent.

Thanks Ed for the comments. I am motivated now to re-try the cotton string bikini versions as well. It's been a while (I had some from several years ago) so I'll buy some new ones. Life Underwear definitely has changed over time with new packaging and some alterations to the cut. I hope this experience was more the exception than the rule since I like their other designs and cuts very much.

I tried the poly version years ago (4 1/2, I think), and was far from impressed. The front was too narrow. There were huge gaps on both of the front sides. A sign of quality briefs or thongs is no gap between the package and the legs, and these certainly didn't have that. The fabric felt great and was nice and shiny, but I just wish they were better designed. I threw them out, and I rarely throw out underwear, unless I hate it or it falls apart (I have so much underwear that I wear any given pair too infrequently for them to wear out). The cotton versions, however, which I happen to be wearing at the moment, are cut much better. No gaps. I recommend trying both mediums and larges to be safe. They are cheap enough to try both. I tend to wear a medium in almost every brand besides Life, and a large for Life briefs, both the string and "regular" bikinis. They are very comfortable and feel damn sexy. They would feel even sexier if the fabric was microfiber, and the cut was as good.

i bought this at walmart and love the way my package feels in them. i also love the way it accentuates my thighs. these do feel sexy. i wonder how many guys actually wear these. i think more than will admit because everytime i go to walmart many of these are already taken.

My boyfriend wears these. I actually find them quite attractive. He loves them and has been wearing them for years, though he doesn't usually tell people he wears them. Therefore, p, I think I'll agree with you and say that a lot more guys wear these than we realize.
