Price: $40.00

The latest release from high-end design label Benjamin Blak is a series of trunks in a fun rugby/football style theme. These trunks combine a variety of materials including a base material of 95% soy and 5% lycra for the white/red and yellow/green versions and a 95% cotton and 5% lycra blend for the black/white version. Other material highlights include a washable leather pouch which is smooth on the white/red and black/white and texturized suede on the yellow/green with a white cord (most likely nylon) woven through the front. The trunk style is medium length extending 7” from the base of the 1 ¼” waistband on the outside leg with an inseam of approximately 3 ½”. The waistband is covered in the exterior but exposed on the interior that has a brushed surface for softness and comfort. The fit on these trunks is true-to-size with the mediums that I purchased working well without being too tight. The contrast stitching is used as a nice design element running along the base of the legs as well as in the same pattern on the back found on the previously reviewed Benjamin Blak cargo trunks. There are three applied graphics with numbers (different for each color) and an elaborate crest on the front legs and a rugby ball on the back. These graphics are printed with a very durable plastic-like ink that doesn’t appear to be susceptible to cracking or peeling and it can also stretch with the base material which bodes well for long-term wear. The front pouch is made from a surprisingly soft and flexible washable leather dyed a nice even color for the red and black versions. The leather on the yellow/green trunk is a bit different than the other two in that it's not quite as soft and has a slightly stiffer feel to it although the look is more "authentic" to the sport with the texturized finish in a natural dark brown. Although this leather is fully washable it probably goes without saying that you would want to hand-wash these garments for the best long-term durability. In case you were wondering the interior of the pouch is fully lined with a layer of the base fabric so you don’t have to worry about the leather or cords becoming a comfort issue. Despite all the layers of material the pouch doesn’t feel overly bulky thanks to the work done to keep the seams tightly stitched with very clean cuts along the patterns. The pouch shape and size might be a bit on the tight side for some guys so just keep that in mind when considering a purchase.

The Grades:
Fit: A- Benjamin Blak/Pulse Underwear typically gets the fit of their underwear down very well and these football trunks worked out well overall for comfort with just some slight tightness in the pouch to be aware of.
Design: A+ The higher end price you pay for these briefs is worth it for the extra attention to detail and design including the variety of unique materials.
Material: A The medium-weight fabric blend works very nicely providing a good amount of stretch but keeping its shape through long-term use. The washable leather works out much better than you might initially assume for and underwear material.
Construction: A+ Excellent construction with very clean stitching and seams gives a high-quality feel to a design that is complex to manufacture.
Overall Grade: A These were a pleasant surprise for the wearability and form but really it’s the unique design and attention to detail that makes the grade.
Would I buy another pair? Yes, I liked the unique designs to the point that I ended up purchasing all 3 color combinations.

Where To Buy:
