Bikiner Super Extra Low Rise Squarecut Review

Underwear Guy Review: Bikiner Super Extra Low Rise Squarecut
Designer/Manufacturer: Bikiner
Website: www.fit-hip.com
Price: $11.00

One of the things I like to do is hunt down and try out more obscure underwear labels. It’s pretty clear we all know about CK, 2Xist, C-In2 etc. so highlighting the lesser-known designers or brands is an interesting challenge for me. While shopping on eBay I noticed this pair of Bikiner brand underwear and thought I’d try them out. These are officially called “Groovin’ Super Extra Low Rise Boxers” although I refer to this cut as a squarecut. The packaging includes the fit-hip.com URL printed on it so my assumption is that website is linked in some form to the manufacturer but since I can’t read the foreign language characters that’s a guess. Based on the searches on Google that I’ve done these are clearly an Asian-based underwear label and I believe it may be specifically based out of Japan but that’s again speculation. The material is a very smooth 92% Nylon 8% Spandex that can stretch a lot which means that even though as a general rule underwear from Asia is cut tighter, these mediums actually worked just fine for myself without needing to size up to a large. I have seen these squarecuts in white, black, yellow, orange and light blue for roughly $12.00 each although that could vary a lot depending on the seller. If you couldn’t tell from the extra-long product description, these are definitely low-rise, not unlike a lot of the N2N Bodywear cuts, you’ll find these are going to rise just barely above the minimum height for coverage in both the front and back. The material is extremely thin (almost see-through) and is single-layer in front so I wouldn’t recommend wearing these in any environments where more conservative style choices would be more appropriate. The front doesn’t really have a pouch but it does have a panel cut in front that combines with the stretchiness of the material to work fairly well-although it’s all fairly tight up front. The waist is handled as a minimal ¼” covered elastic element with a wash/care tag sewn on the interior back. The only other design element besides the tag in back is a small “Bikiner” logo tag in front that is about ¾” X ¼” in size. The back of the squarecut is seamless and the sides are 4” tall, not including the waistband.

The Grades:
Fit: B/A- This is a little tough for me to call since nothing was specifically bad about the fit but I also realize that for many folks this is not going to be a practical concept. If you’re looking for something that’s all-day wearable then by that criteria this is a “B” in the fit category due to some of the tightness but if you’re looking for something really daring then you’d probably score this as an “A-“
Design: B+

Everything is very basic and simple with this squarecut so it depends on whether or not you like minimalist design. I give credit to the designer for finding a way to create something that still has a squarecut look and yet manages to be more low-rise than might otherwise seem possible.

Material: A-

If you like smooth synthetic fiber then this material will work for you. Be aware that due to the thinness of the weave this is not going to be a durable underwear item for repeated wearing and washing.

Construction: A-

For the most part the construction was solid. There was one errant thread but otherwise the seams were clean and the stitching executed well.

Overall Grade: B/A-

I’d say context of use affects the score of this pair of underwear more than most other types. As I said in the review earlier these are a lot like the N2N Bodywear designs where certain practicalities of design are sacrificed for the more adventurous cut. This results in a situation where I wouldn’t recommend these for all-day work wear but if you’re looking for an inexpensive, minimal and sleek super-low rise squarecut you might find these an interesting purchase.

Would I buy another pair? Yes, I would consider another pair in one of the other colors.

Where To Buy:
Again back to eBay for these: PhiloGifts, as well as the Fit-Hip.com website where they have online shopping. I also found this Japanese Yahoo Store site that carried them: Goodie’s Paradise: Product Page.

Wear Recommendations:

Hey great site! Yes, this is a Japanese brand. They are sold at a chain of discount stores, like Wal-mart. Or at least they were. I haven't seen them recently.

They are one of the few Japanese brands that came out with a true bikini. Usually, the closest you can find to a any kind of brief is a very short squarecut, like the one reviewed here.
