Mansilk Silk Knit Mini Brief (Bikini) Review

Underwear Guy Review: Mansilk Silk Knit Mini Brief (Bikini)
Designer/Manufacturer: Undergear
Website: www.mansilk.com

Price: $15.00

I recently reviewed the Mansilk Silk Knit Sport brief which was a successful pair of underwear so I thought I’d follow-up with another cut from the same designer: Mini Brief. For more information on Mansilk you can read the previous review and also visit their website here. This item is labeled as a “Mini Brief” but I’m categorizing it as a bikini given the minimal cut, low-rise, small covered elastic waistband and high-cut legs. One of the big pluses to the Mansilk underwear line is the broad variety of colors available in every cut and this bikini is no exception with 10 colors available including my purchase featured here: Forest Green. The fabric of this brief is 100% silk that is knit in a manner that allows for a surprising amount of stretch but you should be warned that this is probably the thinnest fabric from which you can manufacture underwear so don’t expect to be fully covered with the single-layer front. The waistband is a light-weight elastic at ¾” tall and fully covered by the silk material. I found the sizing on these bikinis to be accurate with the mediums I purchased fitting well for myself which should work for a 32-34” range. The Mansilk logo tag on the interior back of the waistband is reasonably sized at 1 ¾” wide by ¾” tall. There is a separate size and wash/care tag to the right of the logo tag that measures 1 ¼” wide by ½” tall and thankfully both are minimal and smooth enough to not cause any irritation. The legs of the bikini are covered ¼” elastic and are sized well to not bind or cause any digging into your legs. The back is full coverage with the sides narrowing to just shy of 2” not including the waistband rise. The front of this bikini is single-layer and flat so unfortunately you won’t get any helpful lift from this underwear item but the pattern cut is at least generous enough to not feel too tight. The only dual-layer section of this brief is a 4” wide by 5 ½” long section that connects between your legs from the base of the pouch to the back. As mentioned before the silk knit is very thin to the point of being partially see-through so I don’t suggest you wear this item in any situation that you don’t want to be showing it all for the world to see.

The Grades:
Fit: A- Although lacking any shaping in the front and thus lowering the score a bit, the overall fit of this bikini is good with the right amount of material in the back and a flexible fit on the legs.
Design: B+ This is a basic bikini so the main design comes from the material colors and the broad range of selection really helps make the score here.
Material: B+

Considering this is silk I’m impressed with the stretchability and wearability. I’m not a huge fan of the extreme thinness of the knit however so I’m going with a slightly lowered score there.

Construction: A

The seam lines are very straight, I could not find any errant threads and the quality feels very good.

Overall Grade: B+/A-

Not perfect but a solid underwear item if you like something different from cotton blends. The classic bikini brief styling is simple yet effective and the overall production is good. I wouldn’t recommend wearing these in an all-day work situation given the lack of durability in the silk knit material but for loungewear and sleep wear I think these could definitely work as a good undergear addition to your drawer.

Would I buy another pair? I think some of the different colors are worth trying out so yes, I would consider buying another pair.

Hi TJ, thanks for reading. You're right! I didn't mention the overall sizing accuracy. I just updated the entry with a note that these were true-to-size in my experience.

I tried them and thought it was to thin and cheaply made.

Thanks for the comments. I agree the material is very thin as noted in the review. As a result I recommend these for very specific wearing situations that are mostly just around the house. I believe these silk bikinis would not hold up well if anyone were to wear them for a full day several days a week. They really are an "in the bedroom on and off" kind of undergarment.

Hey now, I have to disagree with some of these comments. I have gone through many of these briefs in the past few years, and you are correct about the durability issue. However, I have found them to be really comfortable for hot, sweaty days of sporting activities or laboring in the heat. They never get soaking wet or feel wet, wick moisture away and provide adequate chaffing protection and support. I think there are other garments that are more attractive in the bedroom. And yes, nothing feels better out on the town on a hot summers night!
