Over the past couple of years, AussieBum has rapidly expanded their line of underwear and sports gear to include a variety of designs, colors and patterns. In late 2007 the product lineup continued to grow with the expanded use of new fabrics including the Flaunt line which is composed of the new-age fabric: micro-modal. AussieBum originally introduced modal fabric with the Freedom boxer line but the Flaunt line is their first experiment with micro-modal in the boxer-brief, trunk and brief formats. This review covers the brief cut in black with red accents courtesy of UnderU4men which is one of the very few retailers that sells AussieBum in the US. As mentioned earlier, the material is a blend of micro-modal at 87% and the remainder 13% is spandex for stretch. What’s so special about micro-modal fabric you ask? To put it succinctly (and thanks to some readily available internet research) micro-modal fabrics are more water-absorbent than cotton, the do not pill like cotton, they resist shrinkage and fading better than most other materials and they are extremely smooth and soft to the touch. There really are no downsides to the material other than the increased cost over regular cotton blends. The Flaunt line is currently limited to three colors including white, black and the recently introduced navy. The lack of color options is compensated with a variety of unique graphic waistband design that includes woven metallic thread AussieBum logos and white circles/bubbles in a repeated pattern. The waistband is taller than the average design running at 1 ½”. These briefs fit true-to-size with the mediums working well for the stated 32”-33” waist. There is a relatively large 2” wide by 1 ½” tag sewn flat on the interior-back of the waistband but thankfully it doesn’t cause any scratchiness and it helps cover the waistband seam in the back as well. The waistband has a texturized finish for extra softness and is extra-thick which feels very durable. The contrast ¾” leg band accents are non-functional as the elastic is kept to the edge of the primary material of the brief but the bands are a nice visual contrast and add a bit of style to an otherwise simple design. The front of the brief is double-layer material and thankfully includes a pouch that is well-designed to leave room and provide support up front. The back is full coverage and the sides narrow to 2” not including the leg bands and the waistband.
| Fit: | A | Everything fits very nicely with this brief thanks in no small part to the superior material that stretches in the right places but also returns back to shape very well. |
| Design: | A- | Some more color choices in brighter hues would make this line a bit more fun but the waistband design is unique and the contrast leg bands are a nice design choice so a solid score for the design category. |
| Material: | A+ | It’s pretty hard to find a better material than this micro-modal blend so I’m going with the highest grade possible. |
| Construction: | A+ | this price point I would expect very clean cuts on the fabric, straight lines for the stitching and very few errant threads. Thankfully this flaunt brief reflected all the marks of excellent construction so an A+ is earned. |
| Overall Grade: | A+ | If you are looking for an excellent all-day wear brief then I would strongly suggest you take a look at the AussieBum Flaunt line. |
Would I buy another pair? Yes, I will definitely purchase one of these briefs in white as they make for an excellent all-around wearing purchase. |

Just a couple of questions, how are the leg holes? Are they stretchy, or constricting like Ginch Gonch? I have muscular/athletic legs and thus sometimes Trunks are a bit too constricting to wear. I wear a size M in CK, 2xist, Jockey, JM, and Ginch Gonch is a bit tighter, but I manage. I wear a 34 Jean size but when I am 'in shape' that can be down to a 32. Although my 'true' waist measures a 38 right now. Just wondering what size you think I should go for as Aussiebum states their medium is for 31-33 and large 34-35. So I'm kind of torn between the sizes. I think the large would be 'safe', but perhaps the medium would fit better. Importing to Canada won't exactly make the order a cheap one that I want to send things back and forth. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi Tyler thanks for writing and asking questions! The leg bands on the AussieBum Flaunt line are quite stretchy and the overall sizing of the mediums seems accommodating in my experience. The waistband is fairly flexible to adjust for a range of size and the micro modal fabric is very strong and stretches well. Sizing is always tricky to give advice on since everyone’s body is unique but I think the medium for the flaunt line would work for you.
