Diesel Studded Logo Low Rise Brief Review
Underwear Guy Review: Diesel Studded Logo Low Rise Brief Designer/Manufacturer: Diesel
Website: www.diesel.com
Price: $36.00

Diesel clothing is an Italian-based label originally founded in 1978 by Renzo Rosso and Adriano Goldschmied. The core Diesel product is premium denim but their retail locations and online website also sell a complete range of apparel including a line of underwear for both men and women. I picked up these special edition Diesel briefs at my local retail store where they could be found in Black, white and red in low-rise brief and boxer-brief cuts. Retailing for around $36 Diesel underwear falls into the premium price range with designs that are often more detailed and artistically inspired than many other underwear labels. Although Diesel underwear is often displayed on hangers these briefs were packaged in a special metallic-foil box with a die-cut window to reveal the color. The centerpiece of the design is visible on the front of the elastic waistband which is just slightly under 1 ½” in height where several small silver metallic dots are glued to the surface of the elastic in a pattern to spell out the Diesel brand name. I can’t attest to the durability of these small dots but I imagine they would wear off after a certain amount of wearing and wash cycles so consider these highly decorative but not necessarily durable graphic treatments. To augment the metallic look of the brief, silver thread has been sewn in contrasting lines on the top of the waistband and on the piping around the functional fly front and leg-bands. I’ve heard mixed reports about the sizing of Diesel underwear with a certain inconsistency in their cuts. I own 6 pairs of Diesel underwear and for myself at least, the medium size seems true-to-fit. The primary fabric composition is a 90% cotton 10% spandex blend which is comfortable and soft to the touch with a decent amount of stretch for support. The waistband is mostly no-frills but the material is very clean and the inside has a nice microfiber finish. The Diesel logo tag on the inside-back of the waistband is approximately 1 ½” wide by 1” tall with an attached set of size and wash/care tags measuring ¾” wide by 1 ½” tall. Although I would have preferred a little less “tagging” in the back, none of the material is noticeably irritating or problematic for wear. The front of the brief is dual-layer material sewn in a minimal pouch design which is unfortunately fairly snug. The pouch is better than a completely flat-front design but I would say there could have been more thought put into the engineering which doesn’t rate as well as C-In2 or 2Xist pouches. The sides of the brief narrow to 2” (not including the waistband) and the back is full-coverage.
| Fit: | B | The low-rise fit is modern and executed fairly well but I would have liked a more engineered design up-front for better comfort and support. There’s nothing that's a so-called deal-killer about this brief but on the other hand don’t expect a superb wearing experience. |
| Design: | A+ |
I think the design on these briefs deserves some particularly high scores for the attention to detail and overall composition. The studded logo concept is great and the silver threaded lines really help tie everything together. |
| Material: | A |
I liked the weight and very fine weave of the cotton blend which felt very high-quality and durable. |
| Construction: | A+ |
One aspect that really impressed me here was the quality of the construction with amazingly clean seams and perfect sewing technique. |
| Overall Grade: | A- |
Design and construction really set this brief apart from the standard premium lines and it’s due to those scores that I’m willing to give the A-. If fit is important to you then I would say these are closer to a “B” range given the pouch fit issues. |

Would I buy another pair? Yes, because I couldn’t pass up the cool design I also purchased this brief in black. | ||

I would have to agree about the attention to detail, but I would certainly be concerned about the durability of these things. Especially given the price. Might be interesting to provide updates on durability in the future.
