N2N Bodywear utilizes unique fabrics in many of their underwear lines including net mesh, brushed tactel and in this review: a soft 60% polyester 32% rayon and 8% spandex blend that makes up the Tropic line. The Tropic line of underwear has been available from N2N for several years now and is produced in a wide range of cuts including a Boxster, G-String, Cutaway Sport Bikini, Brief, Bikini, Thong and this full length Boxer/Trunk. The available colors have changed seasonally and this time around I purchased the "coral" color which is a orange-pink hue. Other available colors include white, sand (beige), green, lavender and blue. I've found that most of N2N Bodywear's underwear runs true-to-size and these boxer-briefs were no exception with the mediums working well for the stated 30"-34" waist. Note that the size ranges on the Tropic line are a bit broader than normal underwear due to the wide-degree of stretch allowed by the material. It's good to keep in mind that the Tropic fabric is very thin so all your outlines will be readily visible underneath. Thankfully, the material is opaque so at least that level of modesty is provided. The waistband on this boxer is accomplished as a fully-covered 3/4" elastic band with a minimal 3/4" wide X 1" tall logo tag on the inside-back. The legs run approximately 9" from the base of the waistband and and like all N2N Bodywear items, these are very low-rise although not as low rise as some of their other items (everything will be covered front and back). The back has a center seam which I believe is there to intentionally follow your backside curves more readily. The back seam doesn't seem to cause any excessive riding up which would otherwise be annoying. One of the signature designs of the Tropic line is the special design of the pouch which has a 1/4" elastic band sewn into a "U" form around the base of the pouch back up to the waistband. This design is meant to provide a "lifting" effect for your package without necessarily causing as much tightness as a sling. I would say the lift of the pouch design does a good job of keeping things up-front although for some guys this may be a little too much showing when combined with the shape of the pouch. The pouch design of all Topic underwear (excluding the Boxster style) is fairly aggressive with lots of room so those of you who like some extra space up front will find this line a good option. I think it's up to your personal preference and what you find works as a balance between lift, shape and space.
The Grades:
Fit:
A
I thought the fit was very good with nothing feeling out of place or too tight. The front pouch design may not be ideal for everyone but I think it works fairly well so I'm going with a positive score here.
Design:
A-
I'm glad the color options have continued to change over time and they are a nice change-up from the standard black and white. The longer leg design combined with the extra-low rise is fun for a different look.
Material:
A+
The combination of Polyester, Rayon and Spandex make for a super-soft and comfortable fabric that works great as underwear.
Construction:
A-
For the most part, construction is handled very well with clean seams and no excess threads. There are a few stitches that I think could be a little more straight but overall good construction.
Overall Grade:
A
I was happy with this choice and if you're looking for comfortable underwear that has a few unique touches then this could be a good option for you.
Would I buy another pair? Yes I would consider another pair although I'd also like to try some of the other cuts as well.
