Gigo Underwear is a Colombian-based underwear label that has been on the market for some time since its founding in 2004 but has only shown up prominently on the North American radar the last year or so. Gigo offers a wide-variety of designs and styles that are very eye-catching, many items include bold graphics, metallic foil prints or other interesting design elements like mesh or as with this brief: a shiny metallic finish. The signature style for Gigo is the trunk although they do offer a long-leg boxer-brief and brief cut in some of their styles as well. Not unlike many other South American labels you are strongly advised to order a size up with Gigo Underwear as they are definitely cut much tighter than normal, particularly on the legs. The waistband on these trunks measures 1 1/2" tall and is made from a standard elastic with a minimal amount of texturizing on the interior to help prevent itching or roughness. The Gigo logo is repeated all the way around the waistband in gray from front to the back seam where a paper tag with the Gigo logo is sewn over to cover the elastic join. I don't like paper tags like these because they feel really cheap in terms of production quality and the edges can feel scratchy if they aren't sewn down flat. The tag in back is 1 1/2" wide by 1 3/4" tall and includes the wash/care and fabric content which for this trunk happens to be 78% nylon and 22% spandex. The material is very smooth and silk-like to the touch and has a lot of stretch to it which is a good thing considering the tightness of the cut. The metallic finish is very shiny and certainly eye-catching in the turquoise color I ordered. Other color options include silver, black and red with the black color including a black waistband instead of white like the rest of the line.

The sides of this trunk are fairly short and measure 6" from the base of the waistband with the legs ending in 1/2" of folded-over material without elastic reinforcement. The back of this underwear item includes a center-seam and curved panel that helps create a form-fitting look while also preventing ride-up. The front pouch design is similar to Mundo Unico's shape with a nice amount of lift and contouring but be warned, this is smaller and tighter than even Unico which isn't known for a particularly generous allowance. I was quite surprised at how tight this pouch was and it even alters how the brief wears up front with the waistband needing to tip down very low in front to accommodate whatever material you can reclaim for your package space. I wouldn't go so far as to say the pouch is uncomfortable but you don't want to purchase and wear this trunk if you are used to a more free and unrestricted feeling in the front since this design is all about very compact packaging.

The Grades:
Fit: C+/B- I think the leg bands and pouch are enough of a challenge here that I would say there are fit issues with this trunk. Yes, it is wearable and not uncomfortable but I feel if I'm having some issues with a 32" waist running on the smaller side of standard medium range then other guys are going to have even more of a problem. If you are a particularly big guy in the package department I would say skip this purchase as you won't be comfortable. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: A- I liked the uniqueness of the fabric color and the metallic finish was a lot of fun. The styling of the cut is nice and the contrast stitching around the pouch is attractive. The paper tag is the one negative I have for the design category as I feel like something better could have been worked out from a production standpoint.
Material: A

The nylon spandex blend works well with the high-degree of stretch allowed and the smoothness of fabric is very comfortable to wear.

Construction: A-

The stitching on this brief is nicely executed and the pattern cut was very even. There is some very slight unevenness to the fabric edge where it joins the waistband but it's very minor and doesn't affect the overall quality in any significant way.

Overall Grade: B-

This is a tough one to determine the overall score since there were some low points on the fit and yet every-other category was awarded high praise. I believe I've sufficiently warned you about the fit issues I experienced and for some this would be a deal-killer and for others they can deal with it or they might have the body type that works with the cut.

Would I buy another pair? I probably wouldn't buy another pair of the mirror trunk but I'm still interested in trying out some of the other Gigo trunks in stretch cotton.
