Vizeau Yon Cutout Bikini Brief Review
Underwear Guy Review: Vizeau Yon Cutout Bikini Brief Designer/Manufacturer: Vizeau
Website: www.vizeau.com
Price: $20.00 (approximately)

A while ago blog reader Anthony e-mailed me suggesting I try Vizeau underwear. I had known about Vizeau for some time but his e-mail finally prompted me to purchase my first pair of their underwear recently. There isn't a whole lot of information about the company on their website but what I can tell you is that they are a U.S.-based swimwear, underwear and clothing company that has been on the market for several years now. The designs Vizeau produces are usually more provocative and revealing than standard every-day underwear and the price-points fall into the premium-level of underwear at $20 for this pair of bikini briefs from the Daily Underwear line. Vizeau releases specific design lines on a seasonal basis that include a variety of cuts from g-strings to boxer briefs that typically share the same color palette and fabric. The Daily Underwear Sport SNMTeam line is available in white or black and is made from a very stretchy 80% nylon and 20% spandex blend. The fabric has a slight ribbing effect with fine woven lines spaced about 1/8" apart creating a subtle stripe look.
It's a little hard to tell due to the extreme stretch allowed in the fabric but I would say for this particular cut and line the fit is true-to-size with the mediums working out well for myself. If you prefer a little less form-fitting design I think you could size up and still find these a good fit. The design of this bikini brief is unique with a partial exposed elastic waistband comprising the back and sides attached in a wrap-around style to the front pouch where it the loops are left loose for movement. The elastic waistband is 1" tall and is a very no-frills affair offering very basic function without any texturizing or finishing on the interior. The company product photos indicate a full back on this bikini but in reality this is much closer to a half-back design. A little photo comparison reveals that what (I believe) Vizeau did was take the front photograph from the thong version and the back photo of the full-brief version and combine them to create the photographs for this product. The other discrepancy you will discover is that with this brief the black elastic of the waistband does not come around to the front as much as it does on the thong. These photo combinations do not change what I believe to be the intended fit of the underwear which is nice and comfortable but they do misrepresent the product slightly so you will want to be aware of that if you decide to purchase this item.
The front pouch is a basic design that provides some decent shape and the stretch material allows the fit to be snug but very accommodating for movement and different sizes as well-to a limit of ocurse. There isn't a wash/care tag on the back of the waistband just a small 1/4" wide by 1/2" tall size tag on the interior-front of the pouch. There is a "SSNM" fabric logo tag sewn flat on the exterior of the pouch which adds a nice visual element to the design while not affecting fit or smoothness on the interior face. The pouch is single-layer which, combined with the thinness and stretch of the fabric, means you will find outlines are evident while wearing this bikini.
| The Grades: |
| Fit: | A | I was mostly pleased with the fit from the decent pouch design and (thanks to the material) a comfortable freedom of movement allowed. My feeling is that Vizeau is intentionally a more form-fitting underwear style so if you would like your fit of underwear to be a little more "regular-wear" you could size up but wearing your normal size isn't a problem either. | Pouch Fit |
| Design: | A- | I liked the uniqueness of the design with front cut-outs that were strategic enough to be revealing but still keeping all the fit and function of the brief intact and not creating any x-rated views. The bold black and white contrast color is a nice touch with the logo in front offering something different from other designers. Vizeau offers a broad number of colors in their other lines so I won't knock the score in this category for not offering more options. I do feel the quality of the elastic for the waistband was a bad choice and I think at this price point something a little more modern and "designed" is warranted. | |
| Material: | A | I really liked the stretch of the nylon spandex combination although I wouldn't necessarily say it's great for sports activities given the all-synthetic blend. The smoothness of the material feels very nice on your skin and, although thin, it feels durable as well. |
|
| Construction: | C+ | My only real issue with this brief is the construction. You can see in some of the detail photos some very rough edges on the material cut where the brief joins the waistband. There were also some loose threads in a couple areas and the stitching could have been a little more refined with straighter edges. |
|
| Overall Grade: | B+/A- | This is a fun brief that combines a sport look, a provocative design and a generally nice fit. Issues with the material choice on the waistband and the construction category prevent me from awarding the highest marks. |

Would I buy another pair? Yes, I would consider another cut of the Daily Underwear line as well as some of Vizeau's other designs. The price is a bit higher than average but you get some very unique looks as a tradeoff for spending more. |
