Tulio Supplex Power Pouch Jock Review

Underwear Guy Review: Tulio Supplex Power Pouch Jock

Designer/Manufacturer: Tulio
Website: N/A
Price: $18.00

Tulio is an underwear and swimwear label based out of Brazil that has established a solid market in the US with their wide-range of swimwear items as well as more than a few underwear items. New for 2008 is a line labeled as "power pouch" that includes a full range of swimwear and underwear in trunk, brief and jockstrap cuts. The item reviewed here is the supplex jockstrap in white with alternate colors available in blue, red and black. The material of the supplex jockstrap is an 85% nylon and 15% spandex blend that is quite stretchable and soft to the touch. As a performance fabric supplex offers good moisture handling as well as durability through several washings. The other fabric options in the power pouch jockstrap range include a "slinky" fabric and a mesh fabric neither of which I have tried out personally although I would assume the general fit reactions detailed here would be very similar. Because the Tulio brand originates from Brazil the sizing is tighter than most North American standards so I recommend sizing up when you purchase. The waistband of the jock is is made from a fully-covered elastic that is very thick and measures 1 1/8" tall. The back seam of the waistband is wrapped with a 1 1/4" wide fabric logo tag which has the Tulio logo stitched on the outside and the wash/care symbols on the inside. The size and fabric information tag is attached on the side of the logo tag and measures 3/4" tall by 3/4" wide. I liked that Tulio spared the design from excessive tags and kept it clean and simple which works well considering how minimal the jock is to begin with.

The straps of the jock are also covered elastic and measure 5/8" wide and feel stretchable but durable at the same time. The straps have a unique design where they attach to the base of the pouch in a crisscross fashion to create an overlapping X at the base. You can see in the detail photos how the design of the straps create a triangle-shaped piece at the base of the pouch which allows it to be situated more towards the front and thus not pull your package back as far as a traditional jock would. Somewhat similar to the N2N Bodywear Tropic line, the Tulio power pouch has elastic running all the way around to help create a lifting effect. The pouch on this jock reminds me a lot of the CockSox brief design with a very extreme cut with a lot of room. I am personally not overly enamored with the extreme pouch concept as a general rule but for those who like the idea of having everything out and showing, this jock will certainly do the job. Do keep in mind that this isn't necessarily a great jock for sports since it won't keep things tight and in place. You are more likely to find your package moving around quite a bit while wearing this jock so keep that in mind for how you intend to use it. I would recommend this as more of a fashion jock for that reason over a hard-core sports jock. The pouch is single-layer material and apt to show profile lines so keep that in mind depending on where you might be seen wearing this item.

The Grades:
Fit: A- With the size up this jock fit well with a nice level of snugness on the waist but not too tight and leg-bands that were comfortable but not too loose as well. The pouch isn't for everyone in my opinion but for those who like a lot of extra room up front and/or the look of an extreme pouch you might find this design fits the bill. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: B+/A- The design is fairly basic although I liked the fully-covered elastic waist and straps which gave this jock a more modern visual appeal. The choice of colors is nice for anyone who would like to branch out from basic white and black.
Material: A

The supplex material was a nice choice with a soft touch and high degree of stretch to accommodate a range of movement.

Construction: A-

For the most part this jock is well-made with good seams and straight stitching. I did notice that some of the edges of the fabric where the jock attached to the waistband were a little rough on their finish so a slight markdown on the score for that.

Overall Grade: A-

Although this isn't necessarily going to be one of my favorite jocks due to my personal preferences for pouch fit but overall you shouldn't be disappointed with this purchase as long as you understand the design intent.

Would I buy another pair? For myself, probably not, I think I'm more of a C-In2 jock fan at this time but that shouldn't stop you from trying this jock out for yourself.
