Underwear Guy Review: N2N Bodywear Ultra Skin Runner

Designer/Manufacturer: N2N Bodywear
Website: www.n2nbodywear.com
Price: $36.00

N2N Bodywear recently refreshed their product lineup for 2008 with the retirement of some long-standing items and the introduction of several new designs, materials and cuts. The Ultra Skin runners are the new athletic pant from N2N Bodywear replacing the previous ultra runner. Both the old runner and the new runner are composed of a nylon spandex blend with the original runner listed at 83% nylon and 17% spandex and the new one (on the fabric tag at least) using the same blend. This material provides a very strong, smooth and very stretchable material suitable for athletics. Interestingly enough, almost all online sites (including N2N Bodywear) list the fabric as 80% nylon and 20% spandex but the fabric tag on the actual item differs as I listed above. If I hear back from N2N on that question I'll update the post with the new official information. The finish of the material in the new Ultra Skin line is different from the previous runners in that it is matte rather than shiny which is a little less flashy and seems to convey a more functional image to my eyes.

The legs are pieced together to create the contrast-color shapes with available combinations based off of white, gray or dark navy body colors and white, red or blue highlight pieces depending on the combination. The overall fit of the pants is true to size with the mediums I tried out working fine although perhaps a bit short if you are particularly tall. As advertised these runners are meant to be very body-conforming and I did find the legs to be quite tight so just keep that in mind when considering your preference for fit.

Like almost all N2N Bodywear items you'll find these runners are incredibly low rise so you might have to be careful if you do anything other than stand or walk/run upright since sitting down or kneeling can lead to a revealing show for someone else. The waist is secured via a drawstring cord made of nylon which is black in my navy version. The waistband is composed of a fully-covered 1" elastic band which is important to keeping them up as much as possible. Something I liked was the very small and unobtrusive N2N tag in the back which was minimal at 3/4" wide by 1" tall. The back has a center seam and the leg cuffs are sewn over with 3/4" finished edges. A somewhat different design for N2N Bodywear is the completely flat front which is certainly less showy than the previous pouch runners and perhaps more functional. The package support generated by these runners is comes completely from the tightness of the material which does the job if not in the most enhancing way but certainly the most efficient way.

The Grades:
Fit: B+A- The low rise is intentional of the design so I won't knock the score for that too much although I think just a little more material would help the fit for more movement while keeping things still incredibly low. Overall I'd say these are a solid score on the fit, nothing was particularly out of place and just a few things here and there, length, tightness, etc. keep me from going full-out A+ here. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: A I like the new sporty designs that are very eye-catching without going over the top. The colors are muted but the various pieces reveal how thought was placed on the garment's visual "look".
Material: A-

I think the nylon blend works well although maybe a bit more stretch would have allowed for a slightly more comfortable fit.

Construction: A

Considering the amount of movement and wear and tear this garment will have to sustain through athletic activities the construction needs to be top-notch. All the seams appeared to be tightly sewn with good lines and clean edges and the material cut was very well executed.

Overall Grade: B+/A-

My final conclusion is that these are pretty good runners from N2N Bodywear that offer a little more sleekness and sexiness to your workouts than traditional designs while keeping things functional and durable.

Would I buy another pair? Yes, if I were looking for another pair of runners I would consider these from N2N Bodywear.
