Clever Underwear is a Colombian-based underwear label that produces a broad variety of cuts and styles of men's underwear available in an array of interesting prints and colors. Although the styles of Clever Underwear are similar to Mundo Unico Underwear including a core line of boxer briefs and briefs sporting exposed waistbands and a contour pouch, there are some differentiators in the design category that help set Clever Underwear apart. Clever Underwear has made a splash in the men's underwear world in no small part due to their very bold and eye-catching prints that include distinct themes. The nature designs include prints of frogs, lizards, forests and in the case of this brief, an abstract B/W toucan image. The toucan brief is available in two colors including the green version featured here which is a two tone stripe pattern with bright yellow contrast piping and waistband as well as a yellow stripe version with bright orange contrast piping and waistband. Clever Underwear just like Mundo Unico, XXX and Steven Underwear runs a full size small so you'll want to size up to obtain the right fit. I ordered a large and the 1 3/8" standard elastic waistband with woven clever text repeated all the way around fit nicely. The logo and wash/care tag is attached on the inside-back of the waistband and measures 1 1/4" tall by 1" wide.

The main fabric composition of the brief is a 91% cotton 9% spandex blend which has quite a bit of stretch and a medium weight that is nicely thicker than some other underwear lines. The main color of the cotton is dyed the darker green shade while the lighter green stripes and black toucan graphics are printed on the surface with a stretchable plastic-like ink. The ink printing does crack when stretched so I'm not sure about the longevity of the imagery over several washings but on the plus side it doesn't affect the fit or feel on the inside of the brief. One thing you will notice when you first take the brief out of its plastic packaging is the very strong chemical smell which I believe is due to the polymer ink substance. Fortunately the smell dissipates over time and goes away with washing. The sides of this low rise brief narrow to about 2 1/4" not including the height of the waistband which is low-rise although treads somewhat close to a full-rise brief. The contrast piping on the legs is 3/8" and stretches enough to be comfortable for most wearing situations. The front design of the brief is a single-layer pouch that does a better than average job of providing some shape and lift while maintaining comfort.

The Grades:

Fit:	A	I was pleased with the fit engineering of this brief which has a comfortable and flattering cut that works well for all-day wear. The style is almost a full-rise brief but it's just low enough to qualify as a low-rise brief design.	Pouch Fit
Design:	A+	I really liked the bright colors and the printed designs of this brief which are fun and make a bold statement. The exposed elastic waistband isn't necessarily revolutionary but the contrast logo against the bright color matched to the piping works nicely from a design and color perspective.
Material:	A-	I liked the slightly thicker nature of the cotton chosen for this brief with the extra spandex providing a nice increased amount of stretch and softness. The printing does roughen the feel of the exterior surface but the interior is still smooth and comfortable.
Construction:	A	The construction quality of this underwear item was top-notch with very clean and straight seams combined with good edges on the fabric cuts.
Overall Grade:	A	I was pleased with my purchase and can recommend this brief from Clever underwear as a great option if you're looking for something with some color and style to add to your wardrobe.
Would I buy another pair? Yes, I would definitely buy another pair of Clever low rise briefs given the positive experience with this first purchase.
