Underwear Guy Review: Sears Structure Contrast Low Rise Brief

Designer/Manufacturer: Structure
Website: www.sears.com
Price: $15.00 2- pack

In addition to the Structure micromodal low rise brief, my other Sears find was this Structure contrast low-rise brief. For a little more background on the Structure brand please check out the micromodal brief review. The contrast briefs are sold as a 2-pack for the affordable price of just $15. You can find these in white, gray and black contrast options made from a 100% fine-ribbed cotton. The exposed 1 1/4" waistband is a microfiber elastic that is brushed smooth on the interior for comfort and includes a woven Structure logo repeated all the way around and accented by a contrast stripe. You'll find the standard logo wash/care tag sewn to the interior-back of the waistband which measures a fairly large 2 1/4" wide by 1 1/8" tall. The tag is sewn flat and is made from a smooth synthetic fabric which helps to reduce the irritation that tags can sometimes create. The back is full coverage with the sides narrowing to 2 1/2" not including the waistband.

I decided that since typical US department store brands run small that I would go a size down for these Structure briefs. After washing and drying, I still find my pairs of low-rise briefs fit quite nicely although I think the sizing question will also relate to your preference for fit. If you like a more modern snug fit then going down a size gives you a comparable fit to the 2Xist cotton no show brief and if you like a looser fit then you can stick to your normal size. I certainly didn't have any problems with the waist or leg-bands after having gone down a size. Although the pouch is a bit on the snug side, I believe that has more to do with the engineering than the size adjustment. The pouch is double-layer cotton highlighted by classic 1/4" contrast piping and does not have a functional fly. The leg-bands also sport the same contrast piping that wraps elastic to help keep things in place. The dual-layer pouch in front is fairly well designed with a decent amount of support and lift. I would say the pouch fit/results are not as good as C-In2's low rise brief but they are surprisingly close to the level of a premium underwear brand at almost half the cost.

The Grades:
Fit: B+ Overall the fit of these low rise briefs is solid with generally good proportions all around. The size up/down question is a little murky but I would say if you're on the lower half of a given size range then sizing down will give you a fit you'd expect from a low-rise brief design. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: B+/A- The contrasting piping design helps to bring the design score a bit higher and the waistband is a nice high-end touch for a department store brand.
Material: B+

This isn't the softest cotton out there but it definitely does the job and feels durable enough for regular all-day wear.

Construction: A-

In a couple areas there were some threads that could have used a bit of trimming but otherwise very good seams and clean edges on the cotton where it was cut for the pattern.

Overall Grade: B+/A-

I'm being a bit generous in this final score but I'm also taking into account the very low cost at just $7.50 per brief (at normal retail price). I would say that with this purchase you will end up with a better than average pair of underwear that includes a pouch design, some solid design work and good construction.

Would I buy another pair? Only because I have plenty of low rise briefs will I pass on buying more pairs of these Structure briefs but if I did want to stock up on some decent every-day wear underwear with a little style I would definitely consider picking up some more from Sears.

They are the most comfortable underwear I have worn in years. They are more comfortable than any of the expensive, designer brands I own, not to mention half the price. They are the only reason I do and would shop at SEARS. These are also the best looking "store brand" underwear anywhere. These are more comfortable than any expensive designer brand I own. Unfortunately within a month from this review SEARS stopped carrying this product.

I really like these. They grey ones got a hole in the seam at the bottom, but all of the other ones were great. They are just as good as 2xist or cin2 and much cheaper. I'm going to get the Structure underwear from the other review tomorrow.

I own 12 pair of these contrast briefs, from Sear's. The best men's underwear I ever bought! Like the other guys said, the expensive briefs don't come close to comfort! And sexy too!I love the roomy pouch, fantastic in my jeans! I didn't know Sear's stopped selling them! Where else are they sold?

Hello James, I wouldn't assume Sears stopped selling these briefs. Apparently the original shopping link in the review stopped working at some point but I have just updated it and you can still order direct from Sears the Structure Contract Brief.
