Underwear Guy Review: Ergowear Max Jock
Designer/Manufacturer: Ergowear

Price: $22.00

Ergowear is a men's underwear and swimwear label based out of Chile that has created a niche for itself producing "ergonomic" pouch garments. Not unlike CockSox underwear, Ergowear underwear is designed with an extended, shaped pouch to provide an enhanced male profile. Ergowear's lines are diverse and cover the style gamut from thongs to full-cut boxerbriefs in a variety of materials, colors and prints. There are 2 primary lines for Ergowear underwear which are X3D and MAX. I don't know if the pouches are different between the two lines but stylistically, all MAX underwear includes a classic Ergowear logo waistband while all the X3D products employ a fabric-covered elastic waistband. The MAX line is typically available in just white and black although right now Ergowear is offering limited edition red and yellow covers for the jockstrap so you get a total of 4 color options. There are two fabric types for the MAX line including micro modal (no special edition colors) and the version I purchased which is a relatively thick 90% cotton and 10% lycra blend. Sizing for Ergowear seems to be true to size with this jockstrap fitting nicely in my normal medium. I wouldn't want to make a broad generalization about all Ergowear products as a jockstrap has a much less restrictive fit than other cuts and if you read up on Ergowear sizing it has some unusual ranges to it. I suggest you review the detailed Ergowear sizing and fit chart here before making a decision on any other cuts.

The cotton material of the MAX line is soft and reasonably stretchable and works well with the waistband which is made from a microfiber elastic that measures 1 1/4" tall. Bold, woven Ergowear logo text is repeated around the elastic (including oddly enough the ".com") which terminates at the back in a standard seam. The leg straps are sewn flat to the outside of the waistband which is a nice touch that keeps the inside surface completely smooth. The shiny nylon wash/care tag is attached to the right inside of the pouch and measures 1" wide by 1 1/4" tall. The elastic straps are a very stretchy (almost loose) elastic microfiber that is slick to the touch and provide a nice balance between keeping the pouch in place while not digging in on the backside. The front pouch is the key to the MAX name and is an extreme shape that is significantly roomier than most underwear pouches. The Ergowear MAX pouch helps to lift your package up and bring things more forward-although keep in mind this design works best to enhance what you already have-in other words it helps to flaunt what you've already got. The pouch is single-layer material with a center seam that is heavily reinforced with a lot of stitching. The center-seam stitching is a bit thick which creates a noticeable center ridge in the material. I'm not sure I like how prominent the ridge is but it does not affect the fit of the pouch so that's more a matter of personal preference. The sides of the pouch are kept properly snug with reinforced elastic that measures just shy of 1/4" thick.

The Grades:
Fit: A If you like a more extreme pouch design in classic cotton then this might very well be the jock for you. The overall waist and strap fit is very nice without any excessive tightness. This is a good option for guys that like some extra room up front. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: B+/A- I'm not sure if I like the ".com" included on the waistband but for the most part the other design elements work well. The additional color options-although seasonal-are nice to see for jockstraps that are typically just white or black.
Material: A The stretch cotton has a nice heavy weight to it which conveys a sense of durability while also helping to keep things from becoming too "showy" with the single-layer pouch.
Construction: A+

I was impressed with the very clean seams and precision-cut edges of the fabric. The overall construction of this jock appeared to be very good.

Overall Grade: A I was pleasantly surprised with this specialty-pouch designed jockstrap as it threaded that line of providing unique engineering without getting so extreme as to feel strange when wearing an enhancing design.
Would I buy another pair? Yes, the additional colors would make for some interesting alternatives and I'm interested in trying out the micro modal fabric option as well.

I have been an ergowear fan since last November.
The Max Light boxer briefs are great!
In many ways very similar to my cocksox sling, but with enough fabric to make me feel clothed.
I wear these all day, and even when I go to bed -- even though for most of my adult life I have slept without anything on.
    Very comfortable.
It can be a challenge to get just the right size that works best.
I'm a 31 waist, and the small works best for me in Max Light, even though I also own Mediums.
In the X3D, the Medium is a little tight.
Glad to see this line getting your expert opinion.
I look forward to reading your reviews of the Max Light Boxer Briefs.
And also the Obviously for Men line, too.
    Thanks

I have Tulio, CK 365, Cin2 and Ergowear Max light briefs are my favorite. I love the free feeling and the large size pouch is great. I'm not sure if Cocksox are as comfortable for everyday use and a large pouch, anybody have both and give me a recommendation before I buy ?.
