Underwear Guy Review: N2N Bodywear Mojave Cutaway

Price: $17.00

N2N's Mojave line represents a complete redesign of the previously popular Tropic underwear range utilizing the same fabric but offered in new cuts, colors and styles. I have previously reviewed the classic thong and this review covers another selection from the Mojave line: the cutaway. N2N Bodywear uses the term "cutaway" but I'll refer to this item as a sport brief for the rest of the review for consistency. I never had the chance to try out the original Tropic cutaway but it was one of the few N2N underwear items (at the time) that included the use of an exposed elastic waistband. Most of N2N Bodywear's new underwear for 2009 introduces a much more prominent, branded waistband that measures 1 1/2" tall. The waistband is composed of a modern microfiber elastic which is relatively soft to the touch on both the exterior and interior faces. The sizing for the Mojave line is mostly true-to-size although you will probably find the elastic tension of the waistband just a hair tighter than some other

waistbands. The fabric for the Mojave line is a thin, soft and highly stretchable blend of 60% polyester and 32% rayon and 8% spandex available in rust, olive and gray (this review).

On the interior-back of the waistband you'll find the updated N2N logo patch that measures about 1 1/8" square. Atached on the side of the patch is the typical wash/care tag which measures 1" wide by 1 1/8" tall. I liked the higher-quality fabric style tag as well as the compact size of the overall design which wasn't obtrusive as some of the modern, large logo tags can get.

The back of this sport brief is just slightly less than a full cut with a little extra exposure created on the lower edges of your backside. There is a curve-defining center seam on the back which thankfully isn't so extreme as to cause any fabric bunching or "wedgie" concerns. The edges of the back and front pouch are reinforced with covered elastic that measures 3/8" thick. The front pouch is designed with an aggressive curve formed with a center seam. The pouch design allows for some extra room up front which allows for good shaping although I wouldn't say it provides a lot of lift. If you're looking for reference I would say the pouch fit reminds me of the Obviously Underwear in its extreme shape and cut. Because the fabric is so thin there will be some visible outlines from the single-layer pouch so keep that in mind when purchasing and wearing this item. I found the width of the front pouch is a little narrower than a standard sport brief at just 4" across including the elastic reinforcement.

The Grades:
Fit: A- The overall fit of this sport brief was good with a comfortable fit on the waist and a minimal cut that allows for a lot of freedom of movement. I think I might have liked the pouch to employ a little more lift in the design but otherwise this is a good all-day wear garment. Pouch Fit
Regular
Design: A I like the new, bolder N2N branded waistband which feels a little more masculine than the previous designs. The color options help to keep some choices open for the consumer and the tags in the back are nicely upscale and not overly produced.
Material: A+

The Mojave/Tropic fabric is very comfortable for a variety of activities and it breathes well which makes it a good choice for warmer weather. It might be just slightly on the thin side for some which would be the only downside depending on your preference.

Construction: A-

In general the construction on this sport brief was good. I couldn't find any loose threads and the the stitching was clean and straight. The only minor construction note is the edges of the fabric could have been a little cleaner and straighter where they join the waistband.

Overall Grade: A-

I was happy with this sport brief as it performed well across all the scoring criteria. If you like N2N Bodywear and are looking for a minimal cut that's not going all the way to the level of a thong then this sport brief might be a pick for you.

Would I buy another pair? Yes, the price is reasonable and the color selection makes another N2N Bodywear sport brief a viable purchase.

I picked a few of these up on a whim a few weeks ago... I find sport briefs particularly comfortable, and this brief certainly fits that description! I find it has a great level of support, while having a "barely there" feel. I love that the waistband is a little wider then the previous version (which I never had). The thicker waistbands on this cut just seem more "Masculine" to me.

I bought these in a medium in all three colors based on your review and must say that these are extremely comfortable for all-day wear. I am on the tall side and I personally give these an A+ for fit. The lift you felt lacking was there for me: I guess height plays a role in the overall fit. Great review though, and pretty much spot-on. Gotta agree with Chris too; after a few minutes in these, you forget you're wearing anything at all. Great review and looking forward to more.

Excellent review as always! i have been a fan of N2N for several years now and have always been thoroughly impressed with their designs and quality. The Mojave line is definitely a big improvement to the Tropic line and the wider waistband on the cutaway is a welcome change. it is both more supportive and masculine and I like the bold N2NBW logo too. The material is incredible and the overall fit is perfect without being too restrictive. I like the shape and support offered by the pouch design and the way everything hangs naturally rather than being held up by a enhancing type underwear design. Sizing is spot-on with a medium fitting as expected. Super comfortable, super cool, and feels like wearing nothing at all. I also have the bikini brief and the boxster which are both awesome. I think I need to order the g-string as well.
