In the interests of covering a broad range of men's underwear items I thought I'd take a detour into the wild side with this Allure Leather men's harness with atached studded pouch. I waffled a bit on the categorization of this item between "Bodygear" and "Thong" and decided to fall on the side of the thong since there isn't enough coverage or material to define it within the other category. Allure Lingerie is a well-established label for men's and women's lingerie offering a broad range of items from standard underwear to elaborate costumes. Beyond the women's lines there has always been a range of men's items manufactured by Allure including a black vinyl line and an authentic leather line. More recently Allure has introduced a "Rubber Look" line of thongs and jocks which are not made from real rubber but instead a rubber-like material.
The items available in the leather line from Allure are very broad including standard cuts like thongs, briefs and trunks as well as more unusual items like this pouch and harness design. Most of Allure's men's items are only offered in a one-size-fits-all option and this harness is the same, offered in a single black-leather option as one size. There is another version of this harness which is identical in all fronts except without the metal studs on the pouch (more on those later on). Getting into the harness can be a little tricky but once you figure out which straps go where you'll not have too much trouble.
All strap and pouch elements of the gear are made from genuine leather which is a thicker version on the straps with a smooth finish on the outside and a suede finish on the interior. The main harness straps measure a uniform 1" across. The metal hardware that connects all the leather including twin O-rings and buckles is fairly substantial and seems durable. There are adjustable points on all the straps which allow you to fit the harness fairly well on the height and the sides. The only area that isn't fully adjustable is the pouch which has a strap that is a little too loose in my opinion. The strap is made from a 5/16" strip of black elastic which is a little flimsy in my opinion to properly keep the pouch in place. The strap connection to the base of the pouch could be more substantial considering it's the primary method of keeping things in place. If you're crafty enough you could replace the elastic with something more durable but at this price point it shouldn't be something the consumer has to think about.
The pouch is made from a thinner, softer leather that's been treated for more comfort and flexibility. One huge design flaw in the pouch is how the metal studs affect the interior facing. Fashioned in a genuine metal hardware process. The studs have small metal barbs that punch through the exterior of the leather and then are crimped down like a claw on the interior side. Although for the most part the metal barbs on the inside are not too bad it seems incredibly silly to not have lined the pouch to prevent *any* possible scratching in such a sensitive area. The front pouch is about in the "regular" size range but does not provide any significant lift or shaping, so you should think of it more like a codpiece.
The Grades:
Fit:
B
I wasn't entirely satisfied with the fit of the harness despite the adjustability of the straps. The pouch needs to have better thought put into the fit with the back strap requiring some redesign. Despite the downsides this harness didn't make for too bad a fit once you make some adjustments.
Pouch Fit
Design:
C/B+
Overall I think the design works well with the metal accents contrasting well against the black leather. The engineering makes this harness not too difficult to put on or take off and for the most part everything stays in its proper place. The C grade comes from the metal studs in the pouch which are fine on the exterior but a huge negative in how they are handled on the inside face of the pouch. I'd say go for the version of this harness without the studs and you'll get closer to the B+ score.
Material:
A
The leather seemed to be of a good quality with nice finishes on exterior and interior faces. The metal hardware is well made and doesn't feel cheap. The variations in materials from the straps to the pouch are welcome contrasts and the genuine leather goes well with the design.
Construction:
A
Overall construction of this garment seems pretty good with strong metal rivets used to keep the leather buckles in place. The edges of the leather were finished well and the metal has a clean mirror-finish to it.
Overall Grade:
C+/B-
For the most part this unusual undergear garment pulls off the intended design with a fairly complex mix of materials and construction. If only the pouch studs weren't such an issue this would probably be within the "A" score range.
Would I buy another pair? This is the ultimate definition of special-use undergear so no, I won't be buying another harness but I would definitely consider some of Allure Leather's other more standard cuts of men's underwear and gear items.

Just wanted to say that I enjoyed your review of this garment, especially because I am the head designer for Allure Lingerie. I find your suggestion of having a more substantial back g-string other than the 3/8" elastic a very good one. Although this design precedes my time at Allure I will keep this in mind for future men's designs. It's always good to hear what our customers like and dislike! Thanks Janelle Reply to this

The design of this Allure Leather Harness and Pouch reminds me of the MANstore Tactic Tarzan Strap and Wing combo. I'd always wondered why they hadn't produced it as a one piece, but your review tends to point to what it is - if you've got a piece that covers shoulders, back and butt it's very hard to make all fit perfectly, something you highlight with the need to do quite a lot of adjustment to get a new fit.
Is there anything that doesn't look great on you?
