Underwear Guy Review: BodyAware Structured T-Back Thong
Designer/Manufacturer: BodyAware
Website: www.bodyaware.com
Price: $14.50

BodyAware has done a good job setting itself apart in the men's underwear world by consistently growing their line of edgy underwear designs while continuing to offer their items at a reasonable price point for several years. One area that BodyAware was lacking a bit in the past was the artistic direction in their product photography but they've completely turned that around with their latest run of promotional imagery that is being phased in as they introduce new lines.

If you're looking for minimalist thong cuts with a variety of colors BodyAware has your choice of designs and fabrics available for order. This review covers the "Structured T-Back" string thong from BodyAware which is a slightly newer release. The thong is available in just about any color you might want including white, black, royal, denim, red, brown, olive, pink and this review: wine. The cool thing about the colors is that with the exception of pink, they are very nicely saturated but understated as well, thus preventing the look from getting cheap or feminine. The material is a medium-stretch fabric with a semi-gloss finish that is smooth to the touch and comfortable to wear all day. As the name implies, the thong is very minimal with a basic T-Strap string waist and back design that works to keep the thong on your body but cover pretty much nothing else except your package. The size of most BodyAware items runs true and this thong fit well in my usual medium.

The elastic in the strap and waistband is firm but not too tight to cause unsightly digging in on your skin. There is a slight dip of the waistband at the center seam in the front which creates a subtle V-shape which is flattering and eye-catching. The pouch is fairly roomy offering a deep scoop shape (as shown in the detail photos below). The pouch is reinforced with 1/4" elastic which combines with the deep scoop to totally wrap your package which is nice since this prevents any unsightly gaps on the sides or the base. The elastic on the edges of the pouch also help to pull you out in front for a more noticeable bulge.

It's often a challenge to place the tags on a thong like this and BodyAware went with an older style paper tag attached to the inside of the pouch. The tag measures 1" wide by 1 7/8" tall and is attached with just a few stitches on the inside seam which indicates to me you're pretty much expected to remove it before wearing. I don't think it makes sense to keep an intrusive paper tag attached to the inside of the pouch and BodyAware is probably conscious of this and helps by making it easily removable in this case. The fabric is single-layer in front which can make for some revealing outlines given the medium-light weight nature of the material.

The Grades:
Fit: A The elastic-reinforced pouch design provides a nice "wrapping" effect with a generous pouch that won't make you feel flattened in front. The minimal straps fit nicely with the right amount of tension and flexibility for a full day of wearing. Pouch Fit
Snug
Design: A The v-shape front is a nice design touch and I really like the color palette chosen for this item. The coverage is minimal but more than adequately prevents any unintended reveals through the secure elastic design.
Material: A

The material is all-synthetic so it's not necessarily a performance/hot-weather fabric but for lounging, sleeping or some adventurous activities in the bedroom it serves nicely. The finish is smooth and comfortable without any binding on the elastic.

Construction: A

I'm usually happy with my BodyAware items' construction and this thong that I ordered was another example of high-quality manufacturing. The seams were all straight and neatly finished with no loose threads.

Overall Grade: A

Men's thongs aren't as simple as they might seem at first glance, good design, construction and fabric choices make a huge difference and this BodyAware Structured T-Back thong is a solid performer if you're looking for a barely-there sculpted pouch underwear item to add to your collection.

Would I buy another pair? I don't usually wear thongs this minimal in coverage but the variety of colors means I would definitely consider buying another one of these items from BodyAware-especially since they don't break the bank at the current price of just $14.50.

Hi Guys, thanks very much for the nice comments. Things have been going along all right, just incredibly busy at work which has unfortunately taken away a lot of time I would like to spend on the blog. I have been quietly working in the background on a bunch of reviews though so I'll hopefully be able to post a little more regularly once again!

Hi - guess it's hard to juggle both, but you do a pretty good job maintaining the site nonetheless.

With work pressures, have you ever considered introducing some 'guest reviews' from time to time on the site?

I have bought a couple of pairs of these after reading this review and I have to say that they are great - Good work Underwear Guy. I wear them all day and they are really comfortable and supportive.

My underwear is gradually getting skimpier. I switched to thongs a few years ago and then tried G-strings which I find to be far more comfortable. I now have a few T-backs and find them to be really good to wear. I really love the feeling of freedom they give.
