Underwear Guy Review: Rufskin Jake Mesh Jockstrap Designer/Manufacturer: Rufskin Denim
Website: http://www.rufskin.com
Price: $18.00-$38.00
You can count on Rufskin when you're looking for a provocative pair of underwear that still conveys a sense of masculinity and sport. Mesh is popular these days (at least if you go by the number of offerings put out by the designers) but Rufskin has had mesh fabric underwear on the market for many years already. This "Jake" jockstrap takes the classic Rufskin jock and adds an extra level of sensuality with a dual-layer stretch mesh pouch. My choice was the all-white color but there is also a black version with the same white elastic waist and straps. The waistband maintains a sporty look with black contrast stripes and a very large, bold Rufskin logo with the iconic Ram graphic on the right. The leg-straps are exactly the same stretchy elastic as the waist with the same stripes although no logos appear there. The back of the waist is accomplished with a simple flat seam with no tag which is -interestingly enough- placed on the interior of the pouch instead of the usual placement in back. The tag is very large (1" wide by 2 1/2" tall) and made from a paper/fabric-like material that doesn't feel very high-end. This is the kind of tag you'll want to rip out rather than keep with the garment.
The sizing of Rufskin underwear and swimwear typically runs small and I recommend ordering a full size up from your normal choice. The waistband fits nicely with the size-up but the leg-straps are a bit loose. In some ways, the looser straps are nice in that they do not dig in to your backside although a little more tension would have been ideal. The dual-layer front pouch is made from the blended stretch fabric with a micro-mesh surface. The pouch is comfortable although you shouldn't expect much lifting or shaping from the cut. The front does include a center-seam construction so at least you don't feel unnecessarily flattened in front. The edges of the pouch are reinforced with 1/4" fabric covered elastic which does a good job of keeping everything snug and preventing unsightly "gaping" around the legs. Considering the mesh fabric, the dual-layer material is suprisingly not completely see-through in front. You can still expect very visible outlines regardless of the mesh layering.

The Grades:
Fit:

The fit of this jock is pretty good with a comfortable waist and a secure but not too tight pouch. I would have liked a little more lift and structure to the pouch and the leg-straps are a little loose. Depending on your size I still recommend sizing up despite the strap issue.
Pouch Fit
Design:

I was pleased with the design choices of this jock including the clean, sporty styling and extra-wide straps. The main issue I have is with the lackluster tag which is awkwardly placed in the front pouch and thus made very obvious given the mesh fabric.
Material:
A
Mesh material can be uncomfortable but this blend is excellent with a nice level of stretch and a smooth finish that is comfortable to wear all-day.
Construction:
A
Rufskin is a premium brand of underwear and the construction marks are always excellent. This jock continues the high-quality trend with very clean stitching all-around, no loose threads and an even cut of the pattern.
Overall Grade:

This is a solid jock entry by Rufskin and definitely worth a look if you are interested in mesh that's a little less bare-all than some of the other designs out there right now.
Would I buy another pair? I would consider another Rufskin mesh jock especially if I switched it up to the black color. The functionality of this jock is better than just "in the bedroom" wearing so there's a point to owning more than one pair.
