SUMMARY

PRODUCT INFORMATION:

Suggested retail price: $15.00 - $20.00
Line Name: Cotton Stretch
Available Sizes: S->XL

It seems like every clothing brand has an underwear line these days and Dockers is no exception. More well known for their men's pants, the Dockers brand of underwear has been around for quite some time as a staple in the underwear department of stores like Sears and Khols. The question I think we all want to answer is whether a brand better known for pants can master the design and fit of making a good pair of underwear as well. Read the full review below to find out!

TOP FAVORITE ASPECT

It's pretty easy for me to call out what I felt was the best part of these briefs which was the overall fit. Everything in the design of the fit is handled just right to make for a comfortable all-day-wear brief.

LEAST FAVORITE ASPECT

Although it might have been nice if there was a touch more engineering in the pouch to make it more lifting and accentuating that's a minor note and I had nothing significant to criticize on this pair of briefs.

MATERIAL

As the name of this line implies, this is a blend of cotton and spandex which makes for a very good underwear fabric. This material blend is a traditional 5% spandex 95% cotton with a medium weight that has quite a bit of stretch while still maintaining shape and hold.

The surface of the fabric is soft and smooth to the touch with some very fine ribbing just slightly visible. When held up to the light there is just a hint of transparency to the material but nothing to the degree that you'd have to worry about revealing when worn normally.

Color on the fabric is nicely saturated and even with no variations across the ones I purchased in the 2-pack of olive green and dark blue.

I can recommend this material for most activities throughout your day including at the office, at home or at the gym since the natural fibers breathe well and absorb sweat efficiently like most cotton blends should.

FIT

Although I've often found department store brands tend to run large I went with my normal Medium size and am glad to say these Dockers Briefs run true-to-size with the right fit across all areas without any sagging or binding.

The exposed elastic waistband has a nice brushed microfiber finish on the inside which makes it comfortable and easy to move in. There's a good amount of stretch on the waist without sacrificing durability or function.

The elastic-reinforced leg-bands feel solid without being obtrusive and have a nice amount of balance between "give" and "retention". The back is full coverage but thankfully not over-exaggerated in the cut unlike how a lot of other affordable underwear brands seem to trend.

The pouch is made from a double-layer fabric construction and has a nice center seam construction that leaves a fair amount of room up front. There's a decent balance of structure and shape to make for a pouch in the front but it's not necessarily lifting or accentuating to any noticeable degree. Certainly the pouch design is better than a totally flat construction but don't wear these briefs if you expect an enhancement of your profile.

The rise on these briefs is a modern low cut but still within mainstream fit and design parameters. The fabric tags in back are nicely executed with a design that is sewn flat to the center-back of the waistband and create minimal interference to the surface feel of the brief.

DESIGN & STYLE

Typically expectations for design and style should be lowered for department store brands and Dockers isn't exactly known as a cutting-edge label. Not surprisingly these are a very traditional underwear design with a bold, exposed elastic waistband and solid color options.

The waistband has the signature Dockers logo woven in a repeating pattern all the way around the circumference. The logo is accented at the top and bottom with solid stripes that add a bit of design to an otherwise very standard execution. The waistband colors are made to match the rest of the brief material and I'm happy to say there are a couple of options beyond the standard gray and white.

Offered as a 2-pack purchase, you can get all-white, black, gray, olive and blue as well as blue and light blue color options. The colors are nicely muted with a good level of color saturation in hues that are masculine and functional while still offering more style expression that white alone can't provide.

As I mentioned in the "Fabric" section of the review the material is medium-weight and only just slightly transparent in the right lighting conditions. Given the double-fabric front pouch and the fairly conservative cut of this brief I'm going with the "modest" category for the style personality. You won't be showing off anything more than "G" in these briefs which is perfectly fine since not every underwear item should be a bedroom-only affair.

The wash/care information is printed in black ink on the fabric tags on the back of the waistband which has a slightly vintage feel to it. Overall I'd say the look of these briefs is very classic with a nice masculine feel that is understated without being boring. There isn't quite enough design in these briefs to earn the highest score but a solid "B+" is still very good.

These briefs often go on sale so it's a rare scenario where you'll be paying the full price of $20 per 2-pack. Most of the time you can find these briefs for $15 which brings the per-pair price down to a very affordable $7.50 per pair (before taxes).

CONSTRUCTION & CARE

Dockers is a brand name known for solid construction and durability in their garments and I think that carries over to their underwear which feels solidly made with good construction.

The seams along the waistband were nicely assembled with very clean and straight lines. I was pleasantly surprised to see just how clean the edges of the fabric were in general on my briefs with a level of precision and detail usually found on much more expensive labels.

These are great every-man underwear styles with a non-nonsense approach to design as well as wash/care with nothing special required in terms of detergents or handling to get them clean for your next day of wearing.

The microfiber elastic on the waistband and the leg straps feels incredibly soft and smooth providing an excellent wearing experience. The material feels premium and works well with an active jockstrap design.
