SUMMARY

PRODUCT INFORMATION:

Suggested retail price: $22.00 (5-pack)
Line Name: Premium Cotton
Available Sizes: S->XL

Equipo underwear is owned by Isaco International which also owns Papi Underwear. Based on my own experience, Eqiupo appears to be a Kohl's department store exclusive but you can find the identical 5-packs of underwear using the Rico brand name at JCPenny. For those looking for affordable underwear, Equipo offers a decent alternative to Life Underwear with a better fit and a broader range of color and pattern options.

TOP FAVORITE ASPECT

Beyond the extremely affordable price, the wide variety of color and print options makes for some fun choices to make when buying and wearing these briefs.

LEAST FAVORITE ASPECT

The odd logo and wash/care application on the inside-back of this brief should really be re-designed as it unnecessarily impacts the look of the brief.

MATERIAL

These 5-pack briefs are made from a 100% cotton fabric that is fairly no-frills. The material stretches very little in either direction which doesn't help the fit category later in the review. The surface is pleasingly soft to the touch on the solids with the prints exhibiting just a hint of roughness due to the ink application. The finish on all colors and prints is matte with no sheen evident on either exterior or interior facing. The weight of this fabric is medium with no transparency detected even in bright lighting.

Overall I'd say this is a no-frills but wearable fabric with no special features to call out.

FIT

I purchased this 5-pack in my usual medium and the briefs fit true-to-size with the waistband feeling secure but not too tight with an ample amount of give. The elastic-covered leg-bands offer enough tension to prevent unsightly gaps around the pouch and are flexible enough to fit a good range of leg sizes. The back of this brief is full coverage with perhaps just a hint of excess material for guys who aren't particularly curvy in back but otherwise it's a good fit.

There isn't any engineering in the form of panels or seams to provide a pouch shape in front so you're left with a conforming flat-front design. For the most part the pouch feels pretty good, it will not, however, do you any favors in terms of lift or enhancement. Because there is little stretch to the material, guys who want or need some extra room up front will probably be disappointed as your package may feel a bit restrained. For most guys I don't think the flat-front design poses any issues -just don't expect any "help" from this brief to impress the viewer.

The branding and wash/care information on this brief is handled via a large heat-pressed square on the interior-back of this brief so you don't have to worry about any skin irritation from a tag.

DESIGN & STYLE

Probably the most enjoyable part of this brief is the broad range of color options available. Each 5-pack includes a mix of solids and/or solids and prints so you can enjoy a different look for each day of the work week. The solids are about medium hue with a good amount of saturation and even tone across the material. The prints are color ink on the exterior and a white/grayish base on the interior.

These are basic briefs and as such, they don't necessarily win any particular style awards but the small logo patch in front is a nice addition that breaks up the otherwise plain waistband. The patch is sewn flat on the fabric-covered waistband and stitched with contrast white text on black.

As far as the style personality rating goes I'd say these are in the "confident" category since the single-layer material does reveal some genital outlines but not as much as you might think. The coverage is relatively modest but the low-rise nature of the brief does reveal more than a standard brief.

The large logo on the inside-back of this brief that I mentioned in the fit category does affect the visual look of this brief since it anchors a fairly large square of fabric and prevents it from moving or stretching. The heat-pressed logo image has the result of creating a noticeable visual difference on the exterior of the brief -particularly on the lighter colors of fabric. I don't think I've seen such a large single block of heat-pressed material on an underwear item before and ultimately I think it harms the look of this brief a bit since the ink does not stretch at all. It's also kind of silly because there's plenty of wasted space on the tag which could have bee much smaller and thus less visually obtrusive.

These are definitely day-to-day underwear briefs best-suited to office wear and all-day uses. The bargain-basement pricing for 5 pairs makes these a "thrifty" option for guys who don't want to break the budget for their underwear drawer.

CONSTRUCTION & CARE

The construction on these briefs is pretty much what you'd expect from an inexpensive department store brand -decent but lacking in a few areas. The stitching on the waistband appears pretty clean with mostly straight lines across the waistband. The leg-band stitching isn't as good as the waistband with lines that are quite messy with what seems like excessive amounts of stitching used to secure the elastic to the brief. I'm not sure I've seen this kind of execution before but although it might help aid in durability, it just looks odd and cheapens the overall feel of the brief.

The wash and care information states you can machine wash and dry these briefs so you won't have to worry about "fussing" with these undergarments when you are ready to clean them.
