SUMMARY

PRODUCT INFORMATION:

Suggested retail price: $22.00 (2-pack)
Line Name: Modern Stretch
Available Sizes: S->XL

To my best understanding, once Isaco International bought up Papi Underwear they started supplying many department stores with with several re-branded copies of the modern stretch trunk. You can find this design and style of underwear being sold in stores like Kohls, Sears and JCPenny under a variety of names but the fabric, waistband and prints give away the fact that they are all made by a single manufacturer.

LEAST FAVORITE ASPECT

I really didn't have any major issues to call out with this trunk other than some minor construction finishes. This is a great affordable underwear item overall and worth checking out for your own daily wear.

MATERIAL

The Modern Stretch fabric is a polyester spandex blend that holds true to its name with a high degree of stretch in all directions. The material is very light weight with a slight sheerness to it which is mitigated to some degree in the versions that are patterned but in the solid colors and particularly black you can see quite a bit through the material. The finish on the surface of the fabric is semi-gloss with a noticeable sheen to it in all colors/patterns.

The fabric is very smooth and almost slick tot he touch with no noticeable tendency to "catch". I think this material works very well for all-day wear with a very nice level of long-lasting comfort that will serve most guys very nicely.

FIT

I went with my standard medium size and that worked out as the overall fit of the Modern Stretch trunk definitely runs true-to-size. There wasn't any element from the waistband to the leg-bands that felt too tight and as a consequence I'm happy with the consistency of the Equipo brand.

The trunk has a nice low-rise fit with a brushed microfiber waistband that is very soft on the interior and provides a nice balance between keeping things securely in place vs. stretching to allow for movement.

The nature of the trunk results in full coverage in back with what feels like the right amount of material to allow for some size range but consistently conforming to your backside and thus avoiding any unsightly excess sagging fabric. There is a center seam down the back of this trunk which has the benefit of creating some noticeable accentuation of your curves without going so far as to leave you with a "wedgie" feeling.

The pouch in the front is engineered as a two-panel design with a decent curvature that helps lift and shape better than the average underwear item. There plenty of stretch in front which allows for a good range of size needs.

The leg-bands are not reinforced with elastic and are instead simply finished with folded over fabric and stitching. The lack of elastic on the legs didn't cause any wearing concerns for myself and thankfully left the legs with enough "give" that I didn't have any problems even with my larger than average legs.

DESIGN & STYLE

If you like color and pattern options then you'll be pleased with the very broad range of fun and interesting combinations available in the Modern Stretch line.

Each 2-pack has one basic black version but the waistband color will vary to match the companion trunk which is usually a solid color or printed pattern. The patterns are printed directly into the material and appear very sharp and nicely saturated on both the exterior and interior of the trunk. The waistband is accented with bold Equipo text on the front (no repetition around the waist). The logo and wash/care information is printed on the interior-back of the waistband in a manner that is nearly undetectable when touched which is a great execution.

It's worth pointing out that the seam of the waistband in back is superbly stitched together and barely causes any noticeable friction or surface variation.

The 2-pack I bought included the zebra pattern and a black trunk with the black one including a heat-pressed bull graphic on the left leg. I believe this particular element may or may not appear on the other 2-pack black trunks depending on the design of each variant.

The coverage on these trunks is more on the "modest" side of the scale with everything of any particular concern left fully-covered. The sheerness of the fabric mitigates some of that modesty, however, since you do see more than a little of outlines in front (despite the double-front fabric pouch). The rear in particularly (as noted earlier in the review) results in some revealing skin showing in brighter light on the darker solid colors versions.

Given the flexible material, the fresh design options and the well-engineered cut of the trunk I'm going to mark these Equipo trunks as being good for a broad range of activities including athletic, lounging, night out, all-day and office wear (a rare 5 endorsed use cases).

These trunks seem like a great value at $22 for 2 and often they go on sale so it's not hard to pick them up for what results in less than $10 per pair.

CONSTRUCTION & CARE

With affordable underwear construction is often where you can see some corners being cut to save on costs. Luckily it looks like the Equipo Modern Trunks line manages to only make a few sacrifices on quality. Although generally well sewn I did see some errant loose threads on the waistband that would have normally been trimmed off. My 2 pairs of trunks had pretty good edges of the fabric with little to no roughness but there was some unevenness in a few areas. General speaking I'd say the construction grade is solid and scores better than average surpassing some underwear that sells for considerably higher price points.

Washing these trunks is pretty straight forward with machine washing and drying allowed according to the manufacture's guidance. You can use regular detergent to clean these trunks without worrying about excessive fading beyond what should be considered normal wear over time.
