PRODUCT INFORMATION:

Suggested retail price: $26.95
Line Name: Torrid
Available Sizes: XS->XL

Gregg Homme is a men's underwear label that always pushes the boundaries with extreme designs, amazing fabrics and a sensual aesthetic that is hard to find in most other labels. The Torrid line has become one of the staples of the Gregg Homme lineup having been offered for more than a single season and now available in an even wider range of colors.

Materials are always a Gregg Homme underwear highlight and the Torrid line's nearly translucent and vibrant synthetic blend is a fun way to show off your assets.

The paper-like tags Gregg Homme continues to employ are a huge negative for me and I hope to see them upgraded in the future.

MATERIAL

The Torrid line is made from the thinnest fabric possible with a light-weight feel that is best described as "gossamer" like. The material is made from a Polyamide and Spandex blend that provides an extreme amount of stretch in all directions. THe fabric is very smooth to the touch with a slightly slippery feel that glides across your skin. This is not a true mesh fabric but it does have partial transparency -especially the more it is stretched. Color are vibrant and very saturated with even coverage that appears very high quality. There is a slight sheen to the fabric which gives it an additional level of vibrancy when observed in good lighting.

Because this fabric is so light-weight it breathes well and is quick drying although keep in mind it's definitely not a sports performance material by any stretch of the imagination.

Durability will take a hit in the latter part of this review but just looking at the material by itself I'd say it's a fun and unique choice for men's underwear and works well for this type of erotic-wear item.

FIT

Gregg Homme underwear is usually true-to-size based on standard North American ranges. I have found that on occasion some of Gregg Homme's items can provide a better fit if you size down. The g-string and thong styles in particular occasional work better if you size down when they are made from a very stretchable fabric. In the case of the Torrid thong I'd say it's a close call whether you should size down. If you are often closer to the lower-end range of the given size I think you could wear the next size down. The stretch of the fabric allows for a wider range within each size so the small can stretch to the point of a medium to some degree. I am typically right in the middle of the typical North American medium size and found the medium Torrid Thong just about right but the waist was slightly looser than I might normally expect.

The rise of this thong is extremely low to the point that you'll get just enough coverage above the base of your penis but nothing more than that. The back string is very minimal at 1/2" wide which means thong novices might like this design as a "starter" item since it creates minimal impact on your wearing experience.

The pouch on the torrid thong when it's not worn may not look particularly large but once you wear it you'll see how much it can stretch to conform to your package. Guys with a fairly wide range of equipment should be able to wear this thong although keep in mind the aggressive shape and cut of the pouch will not hide any curve or contour of your genitals. The pouch employs a very simple level of engineering with a basic seam at the base to provide some extra dimension. The curvature of the pouch is aggressive with an upwards direction that helps to enhance and push your balls outward.

The light weight feel of this thong means you'll almost forget you are wearing anything at all -which isn't far from the truth!

DESIGN & STYLE

This is a Gregg Homme thong so you know style and design should be leading elements. This thong is kept very sleek and minimalist but there's one major design element to be found in the Gregg logo patch sewn to the right-front part of the waistband. THis log patch is made from a woven material so it will hold up to wear and adds just enough visual interest to the look of this thong to keep it from being overly simplified.

THe one area that I've continuously called Gregg Homme out on is the usage of cheap and scratchy paper tags in their underwear which never seems to go with the higher price point of their lines. Once again you'll find the infamous size/care/manufacturing tag sewn in to the back "T" part of this thong. The tag size is large enough that it runs wider than the thong back itself. My best guess is that Gregg Homme assumes guys rip out the tags from items like this but I've never felt that was the best excuse to give for using a cheap paper tag on a premium underwear line. I think there's got to be a way to utilize a nice woven tag that conveys the sense of high-end design that Gregg Homme underwear is known for.

The range of colors that you can find the Torrid thong available for purchase has gotten more generous over time with a full palette of fun and bright hues to choose from. I like having choice and you'll be hard pressed to not find at least one color out of the available options that will fit your style. There are more sedate colors like black, white and and gray as well as wildly bright colors like orange and pink. From understated to loud you can choose your expression with the Torrid thong.

No surprise but with this nearly transparent material and barely-there coverage cut of the thong this item leads in the "extreme" design personality. This underwear item is not for the faint of heart and should only be purchased if you are comfortable with showing a lot of skin. There will be no guesses necessary for anyone to know your penis size, shape and any other detail about your anatomy if they should see you in this thong.

Given the very risque nature of this thong it's a natural for the "Erotic" category of wear. It also has a good application as lounge and sleep wear since it's light-weight and very comfortable to wear. Given the extreme nature of the cut as well as the delicate material composition I would not recommend wearing this thong for much outside of those rated uses. Other garments worn over these thongs like denim would probably damage the fabric fairly quickly and ruin your underwear investment.

Given that this thong is nearly $30 I think most will find this is solidly in the "Luxury" category of underwear. At that price point this is a thong best suited to the underwear connoiseur who really wants something unique and cutting edge.

As usual the one downside tot he design of this thong from Gregg Homme is the dreaded paper tag sewn in back which is a truly disposable affair. The paper is scratchy on the edges and mars the clean appearance of the strap in back -definitely something you'd want to remove in most cases.

CONSTRUCTION & CARE

Gregg Homme construction is usually very good but there are on occasion some exceptions. This thong appears to be one of those cases as I did find a certain amount of unevenness in the cut of the fabric where the waistband was slightly wider or narrower in some areas. There were more than a few loose or frayed threads evident in the construction as well which didn't convey the highest-quality standards of production.

As you can guess the durability of this thong takes a huge hit as the material is so delicate. I noticed some stressed areas on my thong that were already showing some micro-rips along the edge of the waistband even though I haven't worn this thong all that much. You'll have to be careful when washing this item with only hand washing approved, delicate detergent and air drying. There's a price to be paid for the fun nature of the fabric and it's clear durability and high-maintenance come into play. Ultimately you'll have to weight the balance between your desire to own something erotic and unique vs. how fragile this thong is.
